UWPL Round 9 Review

Round nine of the Umbro Women’s Premier League saw the top two teams of the competition pick up important wins as they begin to move away from the rest of the competition.

The Match of the Round saw late drama as Revesby Workers Maroon went on to beat East Bankstown in a tight affair.

Elsewhere, Revesby Workers White could not hold onto their early lead as Georges River Thistle won the game.

Birrong Sports had a bye this round.

Match of the Round: East Bankstown 2-3 Revesby Workers Maroon

This weeks Match of the Round did not disappoint between 2nd and 3rd on the table as a five-goal thriller saw Revesby Workers Maroon score a late winner to win the game 3-2 in a clash that was full of twists and turns.

East Bankstown have kept two clean sheets in their last two matches and looked to make three-in-a-row with their back four of Maria Koletti, Patricia Mallios, Amy Peters, and Carlo-Jo Cutrupi lining up at the back for the third week in a row.

In the opening exchanges of the match, East’s were awarded a freekick which Tara Edmiston stepped up and rocketed a shot which was denied by the crossbar.

Revesby Workers Maroon would break the deadlock in the 25th minute as Workers Marianna Konidaris was played in behind the Easts defence before she slotted the ball into the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

We would not see another goal in the first half of the match as Revesby Workers Maroon went into halftime with a 1-goal advantage.

In the 64th minute of the match, Easts were awarded another freekick which this time Tara Edmiston stepped up and found the back of the net to bring the scores all level at 1-1.

East Bankstown’s Cecilia Millar would score her first goal of the season as she was found in the box from a corner before she volleyed the ball into the back of the net to give East Bankstown a 2-1 lead with 15 minutes left to play.

Two minutes later after conceding, Revesby Maroon showed their fighting spirit as Samantha Kontogiorgis found space from distance as she fired a shot into the back of the net to bring the scores back all level at 2-2 in the 77th minute.

The game looked as if it would end all square, however, in the 89th minute of the match the Workers Mya Donelly found the ball in the box before she slotted the ball into the back of the net to give Revesby Workers a 3-2 lead and ultimately win her side the match.

East Bankstown remain in 3rd place as they now sit four points behind Revesby Workers Maroon heading into their bye in Round 10, while Revesby Workers Maroon remain in second place as they head into the Revesby Workers derby in Round 10.

Revesby Workers White 1-3 Georges River Thistle

Georges River Thistle came back from a one goal deficit to defeat Revesby Workers White 3-1 and remain on the top of the ladder heading into Round 10.

Revesby Workers White were desperate to extend their gap between themselves and Birrong Sports on the bottom of the ladder as they looked to be fired up for this match.

Revesby Workers White were the first to score as Zara McAusland cut past Thistle defenders before she fired a shot into the side netting of the goal to give Revesby a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute of the match.

However, Georges River Thistle would fire back in the 35th minute as Thistle’s leading goal scorer Jorja Murray found the back of the net to bring the scores back level at 1-1 going into half time.

In the 54th minute of the match Thistle’s Number 9 Candice Prain was dragged down in the box with Thistle being awarded a penalty.

Thistle’s number 6, Monica Nolevski stepped up to the spot where she converted the penalty to give her side a 2-1 lead.

With not long to go in the match, Revesby Workers looked to throw numbers forward in the hopes of finding an equaliser late into the match.

However, a ball was played by Thistle’s in behind the Workers defence which Thistle’s Candice Prain ran onto and slotted the ball into the back of the net to give Thistle a 3-1 lead in the 85th minute of the match.

Georges River Thistle went onto win the match 3-1.

Revesby Workers White remain in 4th place one point ahead of 5th place heading into a Revesby Workers derby in Round 10, while Georges River Thistle remain in 1st place as they play bottom of the ladder Birrong Sports in Round 10.

BUPL Round 13 Preview

With two top five clashes in round 13 of the Bankstown Umbro premier League competition this weekend, the results of round 13 could have massive ramifications on teams’ positions on the ladder.

Round 13’s Match of the Round sees current league leaders Panania Diggers host an inform Padstow Hornets at Kelso Park.

Earlier, Central Sydney Wolves look to do the league double over Bankstown Sports Strikers as they play at Padstow Park for the second time this season, while Revesby Workers look for an improved performance as they take on Padstow United who look to keep their finals hopes alive.

Elsewhere, Bass Hill Rangers look to climb off the bottom of the ladder at home to Georges River Thistle.

Yagoona Lions have a bye this round.

Match of the Round: Panania Diggers vs Georges River Thistle, 17th June 4pm @ Kelso Park

Previous score: Padstow Hornets 0-0 Panania Diggers – Rd 4, 2023

Padstow Hornets scored four goals late in the second half of their round 12 victory over Bass Hill Rangers as they won the game 6-0, while Panania Diggers come off a 3-0 victory to Revesby Workers in round 12.

Both sides were unable to make clear scoring chances due to strong and structured defence when they met in round 4; in an important fixture for both sides seasons expect more of the same as two strong defensive sides go head-to-head.

Panania Diggers have eased to victory playing the bottom two sides respectively, however they face a much tougher challenge in this match as Padstow Hornets are on a winning run and look to climb up the ladder.

They have kept two clean sheets in their previous two games through their strong defensive structure which will give them a lot of confidence heading into a tough battle this weekend.

A win this weekend will see them retain top spot on the ladder as the teams behind them continue put pressure on them on the hunt for 1st position; expect this to fire up the Panania side for another strong performance.

Padstow Hornets had their biggest win of the season in round 12 as a Neil Philippou hatrick lead them to a 6-0 victory over Bass Hill Rangers.

Padstow Hornets were without their top goal scorer Mike Cklamovski when these two sides met in round 4 as the Hornets struggled to create goalscoring chances. Cklamovski will look to be the difference in attack this weekend.

They have started to score more goals in attack in recent weeks; with threats up front, look for the Hornets to fire this weekend.

Both sides search for their third win straight this weekend, expect a match where defence could prove to be key in determining the winner of this match.

Central Sydney Wolves vs Bankstown Sports Strikers, 16th June 8:30pm @ Padstow Park

Previous Score: Bankstown Sports Strikers 0-1 Central Sydney Wolves – Rd 4, 2023

Central Sydney Wolves got back to winning ways following an important 3-0 victory over Georges River Thistle last weekend, while Bankstown Sports Strikers are fresh off a bye in round 12.

Central Sydney Wolves took the three points the last time these two sides met in round 4, a late goal by Wolves Kallie Bangura sealed the 1-0 win for his side.

The Wolves have won four of their past five fixtures which has seen them climb into the top four of the competition.

Their strong defence and fight in midfield are part of what earned them victory last week and they will hope to apply those same principles to win again.

A win could see them jump Bankstown Sports Strikers into 3rd position; Bankstown are making a strong charge heading into the final third of the season.

3rd-placed Bankstown Sports Strikers have also won four of their past five matches and will be eager to get a result against a team they were unable to get a result against earlier this season.

With the week off in Round twelve, the Strikers players should be refreshed and ready to tackle the final third of the season, where they will need to fight if they want to take the three points away from Central Sydney Wolves.

If Bankstown Sports Strikers can find quality up front and convert the attacking chances they make, they could hurt Central Sydney Wolves in attack and potentially move back into 1st position.

A win for Wolves would put them into 3rd position, while a win for the Strikers could open a five-point gap to Central Sydney Wolves and move them into second as Yagoona Lions have a bye this weekend; plenty is up for grabs in this one.

Revesby Workers vs Padstow United, 17th June 4pm @ Maro Reserve

Previous Score: Padstow United 13-2 Revesby Workers – Rd 4, 2023

Revesby Workers finished the game with 10-men as they were beaten 3-0 by Panania in Round 12, while Padstow United lost 3-1 to Yagoona Lions.

Padstow United completely dominated when these sides met in round 4 as both John Martinez and Rafa Coutinho picked up six goal each with Padstow United winning the match 13-2.

Revesby Workers have struggled since picking up their first win and draw this season having conceded thirteen goals in their last two fixtures.

Revesby Workers will look to remain more resilient in defence in their match this weekend as they will the thirteen goals they conceded in the back of their minds from when they played Padstow United in round 4.

Revesby will need to have more fighting spirit to turn some negative results around if they are to pick up a positive result this weekend.

Padstow United have lost their past five matches and have the worst form in the competition coming into round 13.

One thing is certain, Padstow United must win this match if they are to keep their finals hopes alive.

Padstow United have a lot of quality up front which they proved in round four against Revesby Workers this season, if Padstow United can create chances early, they could score a lot of goals in this match.

These two sides will hope to play themselves back into form this week; expect a clash where a clinical nature in attack could decide the result.

Bass Hill Rangers vs Georges River Thistle, 17th June 4pm @ Walshaw Park

Previous Score: Georges River Thistle 2-0 Bass Hill Rangers – Rd 4, 2023

Bass Hill Rangers were put to the sword last round as they fell 6-0 to a determined Padstow Hornets, while Georges River Thistle fell out of the top five as they lost 3-0 to Central Sydney Wolves in Round 12.

When these two sides met in Round 4 this season, Georges River Thistle scored two goals in the final 10 minutes to win the game 2-0 in a tight affair.

Bass Hill are coming off two big losses where they conceded 11 goals and were unable to score in both matches.

Bass Hill are desperate for their first win this season and need to find their fighting spirit that they had earlier in the competition if they are to start to get more positive results.

If Bass Hill can have more quality in front of goal and start to finish their chances, they may be able to give Georges River Thistle a shock and win their first match of the season.

Georges River Thistle will be desperate for a win this weekend if they are to maintain their position close to the top five spots on the ladder.

They allowed Central Sydney Wolves too much space in attack which they led to them conceding three goals last weekend; they will look to get back to their defensive best and not allow a struggling Bass Hill side any chances on goal.

Georges River Thistle will want to put this game to bed early, expect the Thistle to come out firing in attack in this match.

With plenty at stake for both sides at both ends of the table, expect an encounter with plenty of chances and a result which will be near-impossible to predict.

UWPL Round 8 Review

Round eight of the Umbro Women’s Premier League Competition saw the battle for the top two take another turn as one team dropped crucial points this weekend.

The match of the round saw East Bankstown comfortably knock over Revesby Workers White as Easts move closer to the top two positions.

Elsewhere, Birrong Sports continue to show their resilience as they shared the spoils with Revesby Workers Maroon.

Georges River Thistle had a bye this round.

Match of the Round: East Bankstown 2-0 Revesby Workers White

East Bankstown were at their defensive best as they beat Revesby Workers White 2-0 at Crest Sporting Complex on Sunday afternoon.

East Bankstown headed into the game in 3rd place as they looked for a valuable three-points to push themselves closer to the top-two positions, while Revesby Workers White sat in 4th place as they looked for an important win to push themselves away from Birrong Sports sitting two points behind them on the ladder.

This match would see a completely different start to when these two sides met earlier this season as East Bankstown found the first goal of the game early.

In the 10th minute of the match, East Bankstown made a strong run down the right flank before a low driven cross found Chiara Nohra in the box who was able to tap the ball into the goal to give her side a 1-0 advantage.

Throughout the rest of the first half East Bankstown looked to create chances but were unable to convert as Revesby’s Louise Cousins was solid between the sticks as the teams went into the sheds at halftime with Easts leading the game 1-0.

In the second half Revesby Workers White looked to push players forward in search of an important goal, however, due to some strong defence by the East Bankstown defender’s, Revesby struggled to find chances to get shots on goal.

Revesby’s top scorer and stand-out this season, Karen Bennett was only able to find one shot on goal in the second half as some tight defending by East Bankstown looked to limit her chances in attack.

East Bankstown would finally have their second goal of the match in the 80th minute as Easts Samarah Bayrouti found space on the edge of the box before her shot was driven into the top right corner of the goal to give the hosts a 2-0 lead.

In the end, East Bankstown’s were tough and resilient in defence as they cruised to an important 2-0 victory against Revesby Workers White.

East Bankstown will look to jump Revesby Workers Maroon on the ladder when they host them in Round 9 at Gosling Park, while Revesby Workers White will look to find their first win in five weeks as they take on Georges River Thistle at Padstow Park.

Revesby Workers Maroon 2-2 Birrong Sports

Revesby Workers Maroon dropped two crucial competition points, while Birrong Sports drew their third game in a row as both sides couldn’t be separated in a 2-2 draw.

Coming into this match Revesby Maroon sat in 2nd spot looking for a win that would bring them equal with 1st place, while Birrong sat in 5th position looking for an important victory to propel themselves off the bottom of the ladder.

Birrong Sports were without their starting goalkeeper Lauren Croucher as their number 7 Emma Pavez stepped up in goal for the match, while Revesby Maroon were also without their joint top goal scorer Mya Donnelly.

Birrong’s captain Juliana Dundovic opened the scoring early in the match when she found the back of the net in the 6th minute of the match to give the visitors a surprising 1-0 advantage.

Going a goal down early looked switch Revesby Workers into gear as they began to pile pressure on Birrong’s defence looking to find an equaliser.

Revesby’s Olivia Lambkin found the equaliser in the 13th minute of the match as her shot found the back of the net to bring the scores level at 1-1.

Olivia Lambkin then led her side to an advantage in the first half as she scored her second goal of the match in the 32nd minute to give Revesby a 2-1 lead going into halftime.

In the second half of the match Revesby Maroon looked to create a lot of shooting chances on goal, however, some heroics by Emma Pavez in goal kept Revesby Maroon at bay.

In another turn in events, Birrong Sports Juliaana Dundovic equalised for the visitors in the 70th minute as she scored her second goal of the match to make the game all square with twenty minutes remaining.

Revesby Maroon pushed players forward, however, Birrong Sports Emma Pavez was determined to not be beaten in goal as she held out the hosts.

Birrong Sports held on in the end as the game ended 2-2 with both sides sharing the spoils.

Revesby Maroon will play East Bankstown in Round 9 as they look to extend the gap between themselves and 3rd on the ladder, while Birrong Sports will have the bye in Round 9.

UWPL Round 8 Preview

Round eight of the Umbro Women’s Premier League competition could potentially see some table movements as second and third play fourth and fifth this weekend.

Our round eight match of the round sees East Bankstown second win in six games as they take on Revesby Workers White who come off a bye looking to find their best form once again this season.

Elsewhere, Revesby Workers Maroon will look to go equal on points with Thistle at the top of the ladder as they host Birrong Sports at Padstow Park.

Georges River Thistle have the bye this round.

Match of the Round: East Bankstown vs Revesby Workers White, 4th June 3pm @ Crest Sporting Complex

Previous Meeting: Revesby Workers White 3-2 East Bankstown – Rd 3, 2023

East Bankstown were unable to finish their chances as they drew 0-0 to Birrong last weekend while Revesby Workers White are fresh coming off a bye in round 7.

There was plenty of action when these two sides met in round 3 this season as three quick goals by Revesby White in the first 15 minutes guided them to a 3-2 victory over East Bankstown.

East Bankstown are 3rd on the competition ladder, however, teams below them are starting to catch up as they have only won one of their past five fixtures.

East Bankstown’s attack has let them down in recent weeks having only scored one goal in their past two matches. They proved last weekend that they create chances going forward, however, this weekend they will need to be more clinical when they find shooting chances.

Chiara Nohra almost sparked a comeback in their round three fixture when she scored two goals to bring the score back to 3-2. She will hope to be the launchpad for success for East Bankstown this weekend.

Revesby Workers White are another team that have struggled to find form in recent weeks having not won in their past three matches.

Defence has been an issue for the Workers side having conceded nine goals in their past three matches. They will look to work harder as a unit when East Bankstown begins to get into their half.

Revesby’s Karen Bennet has been their main outlet in attack so far this season having scored six out of their ten goals this season, look for her to be a constant threat once again in this match.

East Bankstown are looking to keep up with the top two teams, while Revesby Workers White could potentially drop to fifth if they don’t win this match; expect this match to be exciting as two sides looking to find form go head-to-head.

Revesby Workers Maroon vs Birrong Sports, 4th June 3pm @ Padstow Park

Previous Meeting: Birrong Sports 1-6 Revesby Workers Maroon – Rd 3, 2023

Revesby Workers Maroon come off an important 2-2 draw against Georges River Thistle, while Birrong Sports were strong in defence as they held out East Bankstown in their 0-0 draw.

Revesby Workers Maroon showed off their talent across the park as they had six different goal scorers in their 6-1 victory against Birrong Sports in Round three this season.

A win this weekend for Revesby Maroon could see them go equal on points with Thistle at the top of the ladder which will have them even more determined to pick up the three points this weekend.

Revesby Maroon have proven goal scorers all over the pitch this season, however, Revesby will be look for an improved defensive performance once again this weekend as they have conceded the second most goals in the competition so far this season.

If Revesby can get on top early in this match as they did in round three, they will look to score as many goals as possible to chase down Thistle’s for and against.

Birrong are unbeaten in their last two matches; however, they now need to look to turn draws into victories if they are to climb off the bottom of the ladder.

Birrong will look to go forward quicker in wide areas if they can start to create more chances in front of goal as they are in search of a consistent goal scorer this season.

Birrong’s defence has been strong over the past two weeks, and they will need more of the same as defence will be the key to their success as they are up against the best attacking side in the competition so far.

If Birrong can hold out Revesby’s attack early and look to score on a quick counter through quick transition, they could snag a result in this match.

Revesby Maroon are chasing top spot while Birrong are looking to climb off the bottom the ladder, a winner emerging from this contest could prove vital for both sides seasons.

BUPL Round 12 Preview

Round 12 of the Bankstown Umbro Premier League competition could see a genuine breakaway in the table as the top five teams look to push on.

The Match of the Round sees Georges River Thistle and Central Sydney Wolves clash next Friday at Padstow Park after Central Sydney Wolves look to progress to the final 8 teams in the FNSW State Cup this Sunday when they take on the Kirrawee Kangaroos.

Earlier, Panania Diggers are afforded the opportunity to climb to the top of the table as they take Revesby Workers, while Yagoona Lions look for their fourth straight victory as they take on Padstow United looking to prevent their fifth straight loss this weekend.

Elsewhere, Padstow Hornets are in search of another vital three points as Bass Hill Rangers are still looking for their first win of the season.

Bankstown Sports Strikers have a bye this round.

Match of the Round: Georges River Thistle vs Central Sydney Wolves, 9th June 8:30pm @ Padstow Park

Previous Meeting: Central Sydney Wolves 0-2 Georges River Thistle – Rd 3, 2023

Georges River Thistle will come into this match after two weeks off as they had a bye in round 11 as they take on Central Sydney Wolves who conceded two early in their 2-0 loss to Padstow Hornets last weekend.

The last time these two sides met was in round 3 of this season where Georges River Thistle scored two early goals as they held off Central Sydney Wolves attack to win the game 2-0.

Georges River Thistle will look to come out firing early in this match which looks to be very important in terms of making the finals this season.

Thistle’s number 19, Raywat Harichaikul has been a standout in Thistle’s past two matches having netted three goals and helped them to an important victory in round 10 against Padstow United. Expect Thistle to continue getting Raywat Harichaikul more involved in matches as he creates havoc for defenders in and around the 18-yard box.

Georges River Thistle will look to get back to their defensive best again Central Sydney Wolves as they have not been able to keep a clean sheet since their round four victory against Bass Hill Rangers.

Following two weeks off, Georges River Thistle will be glad to be back in action; look for defence to be their focus this week as they look to push back up into the top five of the table.

Central Sydney Wolves will be eager to get back to winning ways after suffering the first loss in their last four matches as they were unable to score in a 2-0 loss to Padstow Hornets.

Central Sydney Wolves first focus will be against the Kirrawee Kangaroos in the round of sixteen in the FNSW State Cup this Sunday.

Central Sydney Wolves will look to get to their attacking best when they meet with Thistle in Round 12. The Wolves have proven they have attacking threats all over the pitch as they will look to utilise their pace in wide areas to create attacking chances against Thistle.

A loss could be damaging for the Wolves; it could drop them as low as 6th place if other results go against them; it is critical they start to pick up a victory in this match.

Thistle can jump Central Sydney Wolves on the ladder, while the Wolves look to extend the gap between themselves, and 6th place to 5 points; expect a spirited performance from the hosts as the visitors look to be clinical in their pursuit of victory.

Panania Diggers vs Revesby Workers, 3rd June 4pm @ Kelso South

Previous Meeting: Revesby Workers 1-5 Panania Diggers – Rd 3, 2023

Panania Diggers ran riot in the second half in their win against Bass Hill Rangers last week, while Revesby Workers suffered a heavy 10-0 defeat to Yagoona Lions.

When these two sides met in round three this season, Panania Diggers scored five goals in the first half to win the game 5-1.

With Bankstown Sports Strikers having the bye this round, Panania Diggers are afforded the opportunity to go to the top of table with a win against Revesby Workers this weekend.

Panania Diggers Joshua Adams has looked to be their most consistent attacking threat this season scoring three goals in their win last week as well as a brace in their round three fixture against Revesby Workers. Adams will hope to be the launchpad for success for Panania.

Panania Diggers will look to take momentum from their first clean sheet last weekend since round four as they continue to be one of the best defensive teams this season.

The team has scored eleven goals combined from their last three; look for them to continue to be dangerous up front as they look to go top of the ladder this weekend.

Although Revesby Workers had start to pick up some good results for the first time this season, their 10-0 loss to Yagoona Lions last week has taken all their positive momentum away.

Revesby Workers have an equally as difficult task this weekend as they take on 2nd on the competition ladder as they look to bounce back off a poor result.

Revesby Workers will look to get back to the basics this weekend as effort plays on and off the ball will be crucial this weekend if they are to get a result this weekend.

The Workers are chasing progress while the Diggers are chasing the top of the table; expect to see the Workers utilise their effort and determination as they chase an improved result, while the Diggers come out firing looking to move into top spot.

Yagoona Lions vs Padstow United, 3rd June 4pm @ O’Neill Park

Previous Meeting: Padstow United 3-5 Yagoona Lions – Rd 3, 2023

Yagoona Lions come off a colossal 10-0 victory against the Revesby Workers, while Padstow United have now suffered four straight losses after their 2-1 loss to Bankstown Sports Strikers in round 11.

There was plenty of action the last time these sides met in Round Three with eight goals scored in the match, Jamie Bazevski scored brace in the match helped Yagoona Lions to a 5-3 victory.

Yagoona Lions are the form team of the competition with three straight victories’ while come off their biggest win of the season and first clean sheet as they defeated Revesby Workers 10-0 in Round 11.

Jamie Bazevski continues to dominate in attack for Yagoona as he scored seven goals last weekend as he chases the golden boot award for 2023.

Yagoona Lions will play their fourth straight game at home this weekend as they boast a 100%-win record at O’neill Park this season and they will be confident they can continue that win streak this weekend.

Padstow United are on a winning draught and their finals hopes are slowing beginning to slip away.

A win for Padstow United could prove pivotal in the context of their season as they now sit 6 points off the top five of the competition.

United’s Maceon Goder has stepped up in the absence of Rafa Coutinho with two goals in his past two matches, look for Goder and John Martinez to link up upfront in a game that could see a lot of attacking opportunities.

With one side in from and the other struggling, expect plenty of goals as the two best attacking sides in the competition go head-to-head.

Padstow Hornets vs Bass Hill Rangers, 3rd June 4pm @ Walshaw Park

Previous Meeting: Bass Hill Rangers 0-2 Padstow Hornets – Rd 3, 2023

Padstow Hornets off a massive 2-0 victory over Central Sydney Wolves, while Bass Hill Rangers struggled as they lost 5-0 to Panania Diggers.

A Mike Cklamovski double secured the three points for Padstow Hornets the first time out against Bass Hill Rangers this season in a 2-0 win.

Previous Meeting: Panania Diggers 3-1 Bass Hill Rangers – Rd 6, 2023

Bass Hill Rangers are looking to continue some positive momentum after earning their first point of the season as they take on Panania Diggers who are in a four-way battle at the top of the table.

These sides met in round six this season with Joshua Adams scoring a brace to help his Panania side to a 3-1 victory against Bass Hill.

Bass Hill have struggled to find form this season, however they looked to be the better side against Revesby Workers in their 1-1 draw in round ten which will give them confidence moving forward.

Despite sitting 9th, their players understand the system they are playing now; they have an identity and confidence in playing, they just need to take their chances if they hope to turn draws into victories.

Bass Hill have managed to be competitive in most of their games this season due to a structured midfield and defence.

However, Bass Hill are desperate for one of their players to step up this season and become a consistent goal scorer if they are to start to get results this season.

If Bass Hill can remain disciplined in defence and be more confident going forward, they could pick up a victory which could move them off the bottom of the ladder.

Despite only winning one of their past three games in the competition, Panania still sit in second spot due to their strong start to the season.

Panania have conceded eight goals in their past three matches which has contributed to their recent drop of form. They will be looking to their key defenders in Douglas Nabaki and Joshua Bull to reduce the amount of attacking chances their opposition are making if they are to get a result this weekend.

Panania are still one of the most consistent teams in the competition and will be confident they can put on a strong performance as they look to get back to the top of the ladder.

The last time these two sides met was in round one this season where Jamie Bazevski scored two goals in the second half to lead his Yagoona side to a 3-2 victory.

Yagoona showed a lot of determination and spirit in their 4-3 victory over the Strikers last week having scored three goals in the final 15 minutes to come back from a 2-1 deficit.

Jamie Bazevski continues to dominate the goal scoring charts for Yagoona Lions having netted a brace in their previous three matches; he will look to be firing in front of goal in this match to help his side to their third straight victory.

Defence will be key for Yagoona once again this week as they are still in search for their first clean sheet of the season.

With a quick start, potentially through their main man in attack Jamie Bazevski, they could disrupt the visitors and be on their way to another victory.

Revesby Workers come into this game off a two-game unbeaten run as they look to continue their positive momentum into this fixture.

Revesby Workers defence has struggled to keep goals out of their net all season, however, over their last two games they have only conceded one goal which will give them a boost in confidence when defending their own goal.

Revesby Workers number 10, Bojan Hadzic has been a standout for his side in recent weeks having netted three goals in their past three games; look for him to get on the end of passes from his teammates in a pacey attack to capitalise on any Yagoona mistakes.

They will hope for another spirited team performance which could carry them to a second win in three matches and potentially take them closer to the rest of the competition on the ladder.

Victory for Yagoona would put pressure on Panania and the Strikers, while a win could help Revesby continue their positive form in the competition; the outcome could shape the table in a strong way.

Rafa Coutinho was missed in their loss last weekend to Thistle as he leads the goal scoring charts for Padstow United this season which includes his goal against Bankstown Sports Strikers in Round five.

He will look to be a threat on a quick counterattack in this match as he links up with his partner up front in John Martinez.

Padstow United were able to hold Bankstown Sports Strikers to one goal in their previous encounter in a season where they have conceded goals week on week.

The most important thing for Padstow United to do is fight for the one-percenters in the match and remain vigilant in defence; if they can do that, they give themselves a chance of a result from the match.

1st placed Bankstown Sports Strikers lost their first match in their last six fixtures after Yagoona Lions cam back from behind twice to defeat them 4-3.

Strikers had been flying before their shock loss to Yagoona in round ten, however, they will be disappointed having conceded seven goals in their past three matches and coach Ali Hassan will be looking for improved defensive performance as they take on the best attacking side in the competition so far.

Cameron Campisi has been Bankstown Sports Strikers from player of late having netted seven goals in their past five matches as he will look to be a constant threat once again in this match.

With refreshed minds and a willingness to go again, expect nothing less than a strong reaction from Bankstown Sports Strikers this week as they look to retain 1st spot with the three points this weekend.

With Padstow United in desperate need of three points as they look to keep their finals hopes alive, while Strikers top spot is on the line with the three teams below them breathing down their neck, expect a lot of goals the two best attacking sides in the competition go head-to-head.

Thistle’s Raywat Harichaikul would equalise in the 50th minute of the match as he brought the score back to 1-1 early into the second half.

This was followed by Thistle’s Jake Cassachia finding the back of the net five minutes later to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.

Thistle continued to pile on the pressure to Padstow United’s defence as they made it three quick goals with Raywat Harichaikul making it a brace for himself in the 60th minute as Thistle’s 3-1 lead had shocked Padstow United.

Padstow United looked to create chances late into the second half but were unable to find a second goal as Georges River Thistle won the match 3-1 after they scored three goals in ten minutes.

Revesby Workers 1-1 Bass Hill Rangers

Reserve Grade Score: Revesby Workers 1-1 Bass Hill Rangers

Bass Hill Rangers managed to pick up their first point of the season as their fixture against Revesby Workers ended all square as both sides look to turn their seasons around in the second half of the competition.

The match had an exciting atmosphere as Revesby Workers celebrated their 60th anniversary on Saturday and they looked up for this match searching for their second win of the season.

Both sides set up very defensively as they both showed improvement in defending their own goal after poor starts defensively to the season.

It was Bass Hill Rangers who found the breakthrough goal in the 32nd minute of the match as Rustam Mia found the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

The game went into half time with the Rangers leading 1-0.

It wasn’t long into the second half before Workers had their equaliser as their Number 19, Samuel Thomas finished in great fashion to level the game up at 1-1.

Bass Hill Rangers looked to have more possession and create more chances towards the end of the match, however, both teams were able to break the deadlock as the game ended 1-1.

UWPL Round 6 Preview

As we head into Round six of the Umbro Women’s Premier League competition, team’s gear up to verse their opposition for the second time in 2023 as we can expect some very different results to round 1.

Our Round Six Match of the Round sees Birrong Sports host Revesby Workers White and is Birrong sit 3-points behind Revesby White on the ladder as the look to close the gap.

Elsewhere, East Bankstown Red look to end Georges River Thistle’s four game winning streak, while Revesby Maroon host East Bankstown Yellow at Padstow Park.

Match of the Round: Birrong Sports vs Revesby Workers White, 21st May 3pm @ Jim Ring Reserve Field 1

Previous Score: Revesby Workers White 1-1 Birrong Sports – Rd 1, 2023

Birrong Sports are given their best opportunity to climb back into the top four spots in the competition as they host a Revesby Workers White down on form at Jim Ring Reserve.

The last time these two sides met was in Round One this season where both sides could not be separated as the ended in 1-1.

Birrong Sports defence stood strong in Round One as Revesby White dominated field position and created attacking chances.

Birrong’s goalkeeper, Lauren Croucher was important in Round 1 as she held off Revesby’s chances on goal to help her side to an important point in this match.

Playing at home this weekend, Birrong will look to create more chances of their own in front of goal as they have lacked goals this season.

If Birrong can get their goal scorers in Caitlan Last and Emily Mcgrath in behind the Worker’s defence, they could go a long way to winning this match.

Workers White started off undefeated to start the season, however, back-to-back losses over the last two weeks has seen them drop down into 4th position after five rounds.

Workers Number 11, Karen Bennett, has been a standout for her side this season with five goals to start the season including her goal against Birrong in round one as she will look to continue her goal scoring form in round 6.

Workers White have struggled to keep opponents from scoring in their past two defeats as they have conceded eight goals. They will look to their number 1, Louise Cousins, to lead their defence from between the sticks to improve on their defensive displays.

With three points splitting both teams on the competition ladder, this clash looks to be a thriller with Birrong afforded the opportunity to move into fourth place with a win over Workers White this weekend.

East Bankstown Red vs Georges River Thistle, 21st May 3pm @ Jim Ring Reserve Field 2

Previous Meeting: Georges River Thistle 1-2 East Bankstown Red – Rd 1, 2023

East Bankstown Red look to beat the league leaders for the second time this season while Georges River Thistle need to win this match to remain at the top of the table.

The last time these two sides met was in Round One of the 2023 competition as Easts Red came back from a one goal deficit to beat the 2022 champions.

East Bankstown are coming off a big win as they won the East Bankstown derby against Easts Yellow 4-0 with their number 16, Tara Edmiston being the difference as she scored a first half hattrick.

Tara Edmiston and their captain Chiara Nohra look to be Easts main threats in goal as they have combined to score eight goals out of the ten the side has scored this season.

If they can hold out Thistle’s fire power in attack, they can look to get Tara and Chiara firing in front of goal to pinch another result in this match.

Georges River Thistle are coming off four straight victories, with their most recent win coming against Birrong Sports in a Grand Final rematch where Thistle’s number 7, Brooke Williams found the back of the net twice to lead her side to a 3-0 win.

Georges River Thistle would have been disappointed by the result in round one where their join top scorer, Jorja Murray opened the scoring in the 3rd minute, before Easts Red came back from behind to win 2-1.

However, Thistle is a much-improved side, and they will be confident their defence can hold out Easts Red attack and their attackers can combine as they are out for revenge in this match.

Easts Red could close the gap to first with victory, while the Jets could take three-point lead with success; this match could have massive ramifications for both sides’ seasons.

Revesby Workers Maroon vs East Bankstown Yellow, 21st May 3pm @ Jim Ring Reserve Field 2

Previous Meeting: East Bankstown 1-8 Revesby Workers Maroon – Rd 1, 2023

Revesby Workers Maroon look to make it four wins a row as they take on East Bankstown Yellow who are out for revenge after being dominated by Revesby Maroon earlier this year.

The last time these two sides met, Workers Mya Donnelly and Marianna Konidaris ran riot in the second half as the Workers won the game 8-1.

Revesby Maroon have been the form team in front of goal this season as they have scored twenty-two goals in the first five rounds of the competition.

Workers Mya Donnelly has been their main threat in front of goal as she has netted six goals in the opening five matches.

Workers number 20, Olivia Lambkin, might not be one of the sides most consistent goal scorer, however, Olivia has been at the core of her side’s success this year as she has consistently performed for her side week on week this season.

With a lot of threats in front of goal, Revesby Maroon will be confident that they can win this match as they look to chase down the competition leaders.

East Bankstown Yellow’s are still chasing down their first points of the season as they come into this match with added incentive after their loss to Revesby Maroon in round one.

Easts Yellow are a youthful side that play with a lot of energy and determination; however, they have lacked the experience to find points in tight games.

Easts keeper, Ella Mitchell has been a standout for her side and has managed to keep Easts Yellow in games and she will be key in this match once again coming up against the best attacking side in the competition so far.

Although they sit last on the competition ladder, don’t be surprised if Easts Yellow make things difficult for Revesby Maroon in this match.

With one team in form and another learning more every week, one moment could shift the outcome of the match as both sides hunt for their own successes.

Match of the Round: Yagoona Lions vs Bankstown Sports Strikers, 20th May 5pm @ O’Neill Park

Previous Meeting: Bankstown Sports Strikers 2-0 Yagoona Lions – Rd 7, 2023

Yagoona Lions are looking to find their form once again in this competition as they take good momentum into this match off a 3-2 victory against Padstow Hornets in Round 8, while Bankstown Sports Strikers look to extend their win-streak to 5 wins in a row.

When these two sides met in round seven of the competition this year the Yagoona Lions were met by a resolute Bankstown Sports Strikers defence as they held out Yagoona Lions fire power in attack and went on to win the game 2-0.

After a very strong start to the competition, the Yagoona Lions have only been able to win two out of their past five matches in the competition which has seen them slip four points off the competition leaders in Bankstown Sports Strikers.

Yagoona Lions attack has been a focal point to their success in 2023, however, they will be focusing on their defence this weekend once again as they have been unable to keep a clean sheet so far in this competition.

If Yagoona can tighten up their defence this weekend, they will go a long way to winning this match.

Bankstown Sports Strikers come off a strong 3-2 victory over Georges River Thistle in Round 9 as they made it 4-wins on the trot and sit in first position on the ladder heading into the second round of the competition.

Bankstown Sports Strikers have been improving in front of goal in recent matches having netted twelve goals in their last four matches as they look to be finding the net from all different positions across the field.

They will take confidence heading into this weekend’s fixture having already taken the three points against Yagoona Lions this season and they will look to replicate their performance in round 7 if they are to win this match.

With plenty at stake for Bankstown Sports Strikers, look for them to try to be at their ruthless best, while Yagoona Lions will hope to continue their hard work and close the gap between them and the top 2 spots.

Panania Diggers vs Central Sydney Wolves, 18th May 8:30pm @ Kelso South Field 1

Previous Meeting: Central Sydney Wolves 2-3 Panania Diggers – Rd 7, 2023

Panania Diggers got back to winning ways in Round 9 as they sit second behind Bankstown Sports Strikers on goal difference, while Central Sydney Wolves are looking for their third straight victory after their 5-0 victory over Bass Hill Ranger in round 9.

When the sides met in round 7, Panania’s Mitchel Jeffs proved important his two goals led hid Panania to a 3-2 victory over Central Sydney Wolves.

Panania will hope to get back to their defensive best as they have conceded five goals in their past two matches.

Panania only sit behind Bankstown Sports Strikers on goal difference as they look to get back to the top of the competition, if Panania get on top in this match, they will look to be confident in front of goal and score as many goals as possible as goal difference may be a factor towards the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Central Sydney Wolves are starting to find their form in this competition as they won back-to-back games for the first time this season and sit fourth on the competition ladder.

They will be out for revenge after suffering a 3-2 loss to Panania in Round 7 as they aim to continue to climb up the ladder towards business end of the competition.

The Wolves number 9, Vitor Fernandes da Guia has been pivotal for Central Sydney Wolves recent success having scored four goals in the last two fixture and he will look to add to his goal tally in round 9.

In a 2nd vs 4th clash and 3-points vital again this weekend, expect there to be no shortage of goals as both sides chase success.

Georges River Thistle vs Padstow United, 20th May 3pm @ Coleman Park

Previous Meeting: Padstow United 2-3 Georges River Thistle – Rd 8, 2023

Georges River Thistle look to return to winning ways as they suffered a loss to Bankstown Sports Strikers and slipped out of the top five, while Padstow United suffered back-to-back losses for the first time this season as they look to turn their season around in the second half of the competition.

When these two sides met in round 8 this season, Thistle’s Watcharin Pasarak scored an 86th minute winner to help his side to a 3-2 victory.

After going on a winning run in the competition, Thistle have only been able to claim one victory in their past three matches as they sit just outside of the top 5 on goal difference.

Thistle’s Adam Tahere has proven to be a goal scorer for his side this season as he netted two goals in round 8 against Padstow United. Thistle will look to him once again in this match if they are to get an important three points this weekend.

Thistle faces the best attacking side in the competition in Padstow United as they have scored 28 goals so far in the competition. If Thistle are to win this match, they will need good focus and structure in their defence to hold out United’s attacking pressure.

Meanwhile, Padstow United will hope to tighten up defensively after they shipped four goals at Padstow Park to Panania Diggers last week.

Their top goal scorers in, John Martinez and Rafa Coutinho continue to find the back of the net week-on-week and they will continue to be the main threat in attack for United.

Padstow United know how to carve out chances in a match; if they can hold strong defensively, they can work their way to a big win over the Thistle this week to move closer to the top 5 spots on the ladder.

With only three points separating both two sides on the ladder, this clash could have big ramifications on the final standings and team’s positions moving forward.

Revesby Workers vs Bass Hill Rangers, 20th May 5pm @ Marco Reserve Field 3

Previous Meeting: Bass Hill Rangers 0-3 Revesby Workers – Rd 9, 2023

Revesby Workers return from the bye ready to continue their challenge of moving away from the bottom of the ladder, while Inner Bass Hill Rangers fell 5-0 to Central Sydney Wolves in Round Nine.

Revesby Workers got the better of Bass Hill Rangers when they clashed Round Eight earlier this season, where Bojan Hadzic proved to be the difference in this match as he scored a brace.

Although they sit second last on the ladder, they will take a lot of confidence from their only victory of the season against Bass Hill Rangers and look to win again and move 6-points clear from the bottom of the ladder.

If their defence can hold strong once again in this fixture, they will be confident their attack can create enough attacking chances to go on and win this match.

Bass Hill Rangers struggled in the first half of the competition as they have been unable to register a point all season.

Although sitting last on the competition ladder, they have remained competitive in most of their matches this season and will see this as their best opportunity to find points this season.

They are coming off a massive win in the FNSW Bill Cullinan Cup as they defeated Kemps Creek United 9-3, and they will look to replicate that confidence and attacking flair in this fixture if they are to walk away with the three points.

With a rested Workers side chasing their second win of the season hosting a battle-hardened Rangers side with plenty to give, expect there to be no shortage of goals as both sides chase success.
