Round 14 of the Bankstown Umbro Premier League competition saw the battle for top five take another turn as teams begin to build momentum heading into the business end of the competition.
The match of the round this week saw Yagoona Lions score two late goals to defeat Central Sydney Wolves as Yagoona extend their win streak to five.
Earlier, Panania Diggers retained 1st position on the competition ladder as they were victorious against Georges River Thistle, while Padstow Hornets were too good for Revesby Workers at their return to Stuart Street Reserve.
The game between Bankstown Sports Strikers and Bass Hill Rangers was forfeited by Bass Hill Rangers due to insufficient numbers on the field.
Padstow United had a bye this round.
Match of the Round: Yagoona Lions 4-1 Central Sydney Wolves

Yagoona Lions continue their run of winning form and their resurgence up the ladder after they defeated Central Sydney Wolves 4-1 at O’Neill Park.
Yagoona Lions are undefeated at their home ground this season and they came out eagerly looking for a fast start to continue their winning run at home alive in front of their home supporters.
Yagoona Lions had the better start of the two sides as they opened the scoring in the 13th minute through a goal by Steven Kotevski giving his side a 1-0 lead early into the match.
With Yagoona Lions defending their lead early, Central Sydney Wolves struggled to find an equaliser in the first half.
The game looked to be going into halftime with Yagoona Lions having a 1-0 lead, however, in the 43rd minute Central Sydney Wolves Saed Al-Zebdeh found the back of the net for his side to bring the scores back level at 1-1 going into halftime.
Yagoona Lions were given a penalty in the 63rd minute of the match which Jamie Bazevski stepped up for and found the back of the net as Yagoona Lions had their 1-goal advantage once again in this match.
Jamie Bazevski then continued his goal scoring form as he found his second goal of the match in the 80th minute to give Yagoona a 3-1 lead with 10 minutes of the match remaining.
Yagoona Lions received their second penalty of the match in the 84th minute of the match which Steve Nastevski stepped up for as he converted the penalty to give his side a 4-1 lead in the 85th minute.
The game ended with Yagoona Lions defeating Central Sydney Wolves 4-1.
Yagoona Lions remain in second position as they look ahead to their fixture against Bass Hill Rangers in Round 15, while Central Sydney Wolves fell to 5th place as they take on Padstow United in Round 15.
Panania Diggers 3-2 Georges River Thistle

Panania Diggers remained league leaders after they defeated Georges River Thistle 3-2 as Thistle’s finals hopes take a major setback.
Panania were handed an early setback before the match as one of their leading goal scorers in Nicholas Vertsonis was unavailable for the match.
On a cold Friday Night at Padstow Park, both teams looked eager and determined to win from the first minute of the match.
Panania Diggers looked to have the better of the possession in the opening stages of the match and they rewarded with a goal in the 14th minute of the match as Panania’s Benjamin Ross scored his second goal of the season to give Panania a 1-0 lead.
Panania would then extend their lead to a 2-goal advantage in the 38th minute as Hayden Probert scored his first goal of the season after missing the first nine rounds of the competition due to a lengthy spell in the stands due to injury.
Panania controlled the first half of the match as they went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Georges River Thistle came out in the second half as a team ready to fight to the end as they needed to get a result in this match to keep their finals hopes alive.
Georges River Thistle were rewarded in the 46th minute of the match as Jake Cassacchia found the back of the net to bring the score back to 2-1 and spark a comeback for the Thistle side.
Thistle then brought the score back all square in the 66th minute of the match as Watcharin Pasarak found the back of the net as we headed into an exciting final 25 minutes of play.
With not long to go, Panania’s James Dedoudis found the back of the net in the 83rd minute of the match to give his side the lead once again in this match.
Although Georges River Thistle pushed to find an equaliser, the game ended with Panania Diggers winning the game 3-2.
Panania Diggers remained in 1st position as they play Bankstown Sports Strikers in Round 15, while Georges River Thistle remained in 6th position as they play the inform Padstow Hornets in Round 15.
Revesby Workers 1-10 Padstow Hornets

Padstow Hornets put on a show in their returning game to Stuart Street Reserve as they defeated Revesby Workers 10-1.
Padstow Hornets started fast in front of a big Hornets crowd as Hornet’s Costa Fiakos and Neil Philippou scored in the 4th and 5th minute to give Hornets an early 2-0 lead.
Moments later, Hornets Mike Cklamovski scored his first goal of the match in the 8th minute as Hornets had a 3-0 lead in the first ten minutes.
Mike Cklamovski would then score two quick goals in the 20th and 26th minute to give himself a first half hattrick and give Padstow Hornets a 5-0 lead.
Neil Philippou scored his second goal of the match in the 33rd minute to give Padstow Hornets a 6-0 lead going into halftime.
Padstow Hornets would then start the first half as they finished last when Mike Cklamovksi scored his fourth goal in the 53rd minute to give the Hornets a 7-0 lead.
Neil Phillipou would then go on to score his third and fourth goal of the match in the 63rd and 65th minute of the match to give the Hornets a 9-0 lead.
Revesby Workers would then go onto score a consolation goal in the 68th minute of the match as Mark Zakhia scored in the 68th minute of the match.
After a quiet final 20 minutes of the match, the Hornets Ryan Bateman scored in the 87th minute of the match as the Hornets went on to win the match 10-1.
Revesby Workers remained in 8th position as they have a bye in Round 15, while the win for Padstow Hornets saw them move up to 3rd position as they play Georges River Thistle at Stuart Street Reserve in Round 15.
