Umbro BPL Round 7 Preview

We’re now a third of the way through the season, and a divide is forming between the top and bottom halves of the ladder, making the upcoming weekend’s matches crucial for the standings.

This week’s Match of the Round sees the in-form Padstow Hornets facing off against the struggling Georges River Thistle on Friday night at Padstow Park. Additionally, the Bankstown Sports Stars will welcome the Central Sydney Wolves at Nick Kearns Reserve, and Padstow United aims to keep their unbeaten streak alive as they play host to the Yagoona Lions at Playford Park.
In other action, the Panania Diggers, who are aiming to stay atop the leaderboard, will entertain Birrong Sports at Kelso South, and the Bankstown Sports Strikers look to clinch a victory as they match up against the Revesby Workers at Crest.

Match of the Round: Georges River Thistle vs Padstow Hornets, Friday 3rd May 7:30pm @ Padstow Park

Previous Meeting: Padstow Hornets 2-2 Georges River Thistle – Rd 15, 2023

For the first time this season, Georges River Thistle and Padstow Hornets will face off at Padstow Park, standing at opposite ends of the ladder. Thistle aims to shake up the standings with a potential season-defining upset.

Last season in Round 15, Georges River Thistle managed a surprising draw away from home against the Hornets. With history possibly repeating, could Thistle secure another impactful result this Friday night?

Georges River Thistle, currently in 10th place, nearly earned their first point of the season last weekend until the final 10 minutes when Yagoona Lions scored three quick goals, resulting in a 3-0 loss for Thistle.

Having not scored in their last three games, Thistle knows they need to improve offensively if they hope to challenge the Hornets.

Goalkeeper Blake Allport will be key for Thistle, aiming to lead his team to their first points of the season with a solid performance between the posts.

Meanwhile, the 2nd-placed Padstow Hornets are in top form, having won their last five matches, each by at least three goals.

Their robust defence has been crucial, conceding only two goals in the last four matches. Facing Thistle’s struggling attack, the Hornets are poised to strive for another clean sheet

Manuel Angelopoulos, last week’s hat-trick hero in their 4-1 victory over Bankstown Sports Strikers, is expected to be a significant threat once again.

As the match approaches, Thistle will be looking to overcome their poor form, while the Hornets aim to maintain their winning streak, with both teams eager to claim crucial victories for their seasons.

Bankstown Sports Stars vs Central Sydney Wolves, Saturday 4th May 4pm @ Nick Kearns Reserve

These two teams haven’t met in the last few seasons.

Bankstown Sports Stars secured a significant victory last weekend and aim to continue their winning streak as they host the Central Sydney Wolves, who haven’t won in their last two matches and are eager to return to their winning ways.

Seventh-placed Bankstown Sports Stars claimed their second win of the season by defeating Revesby Workers 2-0 at home. Scoring goals has been challenging for the Stars, but netting two last weekend has built their momentum as they prepare to face one of the competition’s stronger teams.

The Stars have a notable record of not losing a game after scoring first this season. They will likely push for an early lead and maintain a strong defensive stance to hold onto any advantage they gain.

Meanwhile, the fourth-placed Central Sydney Wolves have seen a slide in form, going winless in their last two outings and falling from the top of the ladder.

They see this weekend’s match as vital to stay in contention near the top. Their defence has been vulnerable lately, and tightening up at the back to achieve their first clean sheet of the season will be a priority.

As both teams seek a fast start to claim the crucial three points, the Bankstown Sports Stars look to notch their first consecutive wins of the season, while the Central Sydney Wolves are desperate to end a three-game winless streak.

Padstow United vs Yagoona Lions, Saturday 4th May 4pm @ Playford Park

Previous Meeting: Yagoona Lions 3-1 Padstow United – Rd 12, 2023

This weekend, Padstow United aims to preserve their undefeated record as they face a Yagoona Lions team just two points behind them in the competition standings.

Last season in Round 12, it was Yagoona Lions who triumphed, securing a 3-1 victory over United.

Currently in third place, Padstow United is coming off a strong performance, having secured their second win and clean sheet of the season with a 3-0 victory over Birrong Sports. Their defence was particularly impressive, managing to neutralize a potent Birrong Sports offense.

Padstow United’s attacking trio—John Martinez, Rafa Coutinho, and Sergio Tarazona—has been in fine form, contributing to 17 of the team’s 19 goals this season. With the offense clicking, they’ll be looking to exploit their attacking strength again this weekend.

On the other side, fifth-placed Yagoona Lions have rebounded from consecutive 4-0 losses with a solid 3-0 win against Georges River Thistle.

Benne Owusu was instrumental last weekend, coming off the bench to score twice late in the game, which helped secure the victory.

Yagoona Lions have not been able to defeat any of the teams that sit above them on the competition ladder this season. Yagoona Lions will be looking for a lift in their performance as they look to overcome the odds against Padstow United.

As the season nears its midpoint, a win is critical for both sides. Expect a closely contested, physical match as each team strives for a significant victory.

Panania Diggers vs Birrong Sports, Saturday 4th May 4pm @ Kelso South

Previous Meeting: Birrong Sports 1-3 Panania Diggers – Rd 17, 2022

Panania Diggers aim to maintain their position at the top of the ladder this weekend as they face Birrong Sports, who are determined to avoid consecutive losses.

In their last meeting during Round 17 of 2022, Panania Diggers came out on top with a 3-1 victory, fuelled by a double from Joshua Adams.

The league-leading Diggers are coming off a pivotal win in their top-of-the-table clash against Central Sydney Wolves last weekend, securing a 3-2 victory after initially leading 3-0 and managing to withstand a late comeback attempt by the Wolves.

James Dedousis was particularly impressive for the Diggers in that match. Panania is hopeful he will deliver another standout performance this weekend to help secure a win and keep the team at the summit of the league.

Currently in 8th place, Birrong Sports’ recent momentum was halted by a 3-0 defeat to Padstow United, ending their streak of games without a loss.

After failing to score last weekend, Birrong is keen to enhance their attacking efforts and will need to find ways to penetrate the Diggers’ staunch defence.

A victory for Panania Diggers would ensure they remain at the top, while a win for Birrong Sports could propel them as high as 6th place on the ladder. Expect an intense matchup as two capable attacking teams face off, making the outcome hard to predict.

Bankstown Sports Strikers vs Revesby Workers, Saturday 4th May 4pm @ Crest Sporting Complex

Previous Meeting: Bankstown Sports Strikers 8-3 Revesby Workers – Rd 18, 2023

Bankstown Sports Strikers are in urgent need of a win this weekend as they host Revesby Workers, a team still on the hunt for their first victory of the season.

In their previous encounter in Round 18 last season, Bankstown Sports Strikers triumphed over Revesby Workers with a commanding 8-3 score line, thanks to a standout performance from attacker Robson De Souza, who netted five goals.

Currently in 6th place, the Strikers are looking to rebound from a tough 4-1 defeat to Padstow Hornets in their Grand Final rematch last weekend.

They now find themselves six points behind the top five and are eager to close this gap with a much-needed win this weekend.

On the other side, 9th placed Revesby Workers also faced disappointment last weekend, failing to secure points in a 2-0 loss to Bankstown Sports Stars.

With no goals in their last two games, Revesby is keen to reignite their scoring to secure their first win of the season.

With both teams desperate for points to bolster their league standings, a tightly contested tactical match is anticipated. This clash promises significant implications for their positions on the ladder.

Umbro BPL Round 6 Preview

Five rounds into the Umbro Bankstown Premier League competition, the teams are beginning to cluster at the top and bottom of the standings, making every match critical. All fixtures are set for Saturday.

This weekend’s Match of the Round is the Grand Final rematch, featuring Padstow Hornets versus Bankstown Sports Strikers, a matchup that consistently delivers excitement.

In other action, Bankstown Sports Stars and Revesby Workers aim to hit their stride in their upcoming game, while Yagoona Lions hope to avoid a third consecutive loss as they take on Georges River Thistle, who are still hunting for their first season points.

Additionally, a key clash at the top of the table pits Central Sydney Wolves against Panania Diggers, with the victor gaining a clear lead. Meanwhile, Padstow United will attempt to maintain their unbeaten streak against a Birrong team that is beginning to come into form.

Match of the Round: Padstow Hornets vs Bankstown Sports Strikers, Saturday 27th April 4pm @ Stuart Street Reserve

Previous Meeting: Padstow Hornets 1-2 Bankstown Sports Strikers – Grand Final, 2023

Currently in third place, the Padstow Hornets aim for their fifth consecutive win as they face the sixth-placed Bankstown Sports Strikers, who are keen to secure three points to stay in contention with the league leaders.

In last year’s Grand Final, the Bankstown Sports Strikers emerged as champions with a 2-1 victory over the Hornets, having built an early 2-0 lead before the Hornets mounted a late comeback.

The Hornets have been in stellar form, not dropping points since the first round.

They have showcased their offensive strength, netting 17 goals so far. Key players like Mike Cklamovski and Manuel Angelopoulos have consistently found the back of the net and will be eager to add more this weekend.

Defensively, the Hornets have been just as formidable, conceding only one goal in their last three matches. Playing at home for the second time this season, they will look to leverage their home advantage to continue their strong performances.

The Bankstown Sports Strikers have secured two impressive victories in their last three matches, though they have struggled to win against the top-tier teams in the league.

This weekend, they face the third-placed Padstow Hornets and are determined to demonstrate their elite status with a win against one of the competition’s strongest sides.

Having scored 11 goals in their recent outings, the Strikers have shown formidable attacking prowess. They’ll need to step up their offensive game even further to penetrate the solid defence of the Padstow Hornets.

A large turnout is expected at Stuart Street Reserve, as the Bankstown Sports Strikers and Padstow Hornets clash for the first time since the 2023 Grand Final.

Bankstown Sports Stars vs Revesby Workers FC, Saturday 27th April 2:30pm @ Nick Kearns Reserve

These two teams haven’t met in the last few seasons.

Bankstown Sports Stars, currently in 8th place, are aiming to halt a streak of four consecutive losses as they go up against the 9th placed Revesby Workers, who are still looking for their first win of the season but remain optimistic about their chances.

The past week has been challenging for the Sports Stars, suffering a 4-0 defeat to Panania Diggers last weekend and a 7-0 loss to Padstow United on Tuesday night. It’s crucial for them to regroup and start strong in their upcoming match.

Defensive solidity will be key for the Stars, having allowed at least four goals in each of their last four matches. A more resilient defensive performance could help them find their rhythm offensively.

Revesby Workers, on the other hand, faced a 3-0 loss against a tough Padstow Hornets side in Round 5, with discipline issues leading to two red cards in the last 20 minutes and two late goals conceded.

Despite having let in 19 goals this season, Revesby Workers have only conceded six in the first halves of matches. If they can maintain their defensive efforts throughout the entire game, they feel confident about securing their first victory.

With both teams eager to turn their fortunes around, this weekend’s matchup is set to be a closely contested battle, with potential for either side to emerge victorious.

Yagoona Lions vs Georges River Thistle, Saturday 27th April 3pm @ O’Neill Park

Previous Meeting: Georges River Thistle 1-6 Yagoona Lions – Rd 18, 2023

Currently in 5th place, the Yagoona Lions are keen to reverse their recent downturn as they face the 10th placed Georges River Thistle, who are yet to earn a point this season.

In their last meeting during Round 18 of the previous season, the Lions dominated with a 6-1 victory over Georges River Thistle at Padstow Park.

Following back-to-back 4-0 defeats to Bankstown Sports Strikers and Padstow Hornets, the Lions are determined to avoid a third consecutive loss.

With matchups against three of the top four teams yet to come, Yagoona sees this game as crucial to maintaining their position before facing a challenging stretch of the season.

To stay competitive and keep their spot among the top teams in 2024, Yagoona must find a way to score goals more consistently, or they risk slipping out of the top five in the standings.

Georges River Thistle, still seeking their first points of 2024, are in a dire position to turn their season around.

Despite a challenging start, the issue has been particularly stark in their scoring, having failed to score in three of their five matches. It’s essential for Thistle to find their scoring touch if they hope to secure points this weekend.

Aaron Woodward and Adam Tahere have stood out as some of Thistle’s top performers and will be crucial in their attempt to achieve a positive result this weekend.

Both teams have strong motivations for a victory: Yagoona Lions aim to stay within reach of the top four, whereas Thistle is focused on climbing from the bottom of the ladder. With such high stakes, this matchup is shaping up to be a compelling contest this weekend.

Central Sydney Wolves vs Panania Diggers, Saturday 27th April 4pm @ Lockwood Park

Previous Meeting: Central Sydney Wolves 1-3 Panania Diggers – Minor Final, 2023

In a top-of-the-table clash at Lockwood Park, 2nd placed Central Sydney Wolves host the leaders Panania Diggers in what promises to be one of the season’s most thrilling matches with significant implications for both teams.

The last time these teams met during the first week of the 2023 finals series, Panania Diggers emerged victorious with a 3-1 win, ending the Wolves’ season.

Central Sydney Wolves, who had been on a winning streak with four consecutive victories, faced a setback last weekend. They drew 3-3 with Padstow United after conceding a goal in the 87th minute.

Despite allowing three goals last match, Wolves’ goalkeeper Chinonso Nwankwo played a pivotal role, making several critical saves. His performance will be vital once again if they are to contain a Panania Diggers team that has scored the most goals in the competition this season.

Panania Diggers, who lead the ladder based on their goal difference, are determined to secure a win to maintain their position. Lachlan Vella, one of the standout players this season for the Diggers, will be key to driving his team toward an important victory.

Defensively, the Diggers have been robust, conceding only five goals in their first five matches and are looking to extend their streak of not conceding to three matches.

As both teams boast formidable attacking line-ups, this weekend’s match is set to be a showcase of offensive prowess and could go either way, adding an element of unpredictability to the encounter.

Padstow United vs Birrong Sports, Saturday 27th April 4pm @ Playford Park

Previous Meeting: Birrong Sports 2-3 Padstow United – Rd 15, 2022

4th placed Padstow United is set to host 7th placed Birrong Sports at Playford Park, both teams riding high after substantial victories in their recent outings.

In their last encounter during Round 15 of the 2022 competition, Padstow United clinched a thrilling 3-point victory, thanks to Rafael Coutinho’s hat trick, with his decisive third goal coming in the 90th minute.

Padstow United comes off a commanding 7-0 win against Bankstown Sports Stars, with Rafael Coutinho again in stellar form, scoring four goals. Given the history and current form, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Coutinho making multiple appearances on the scoresheet against Birrong.

Sergio Tarazona remains a pivotal figure for Padstow United, leveraging his extensive experience. Birrong will likely focus on marking him closely during set pieces, anticipating his aerial threat from corners and free kicks.

Undefeated this season, Padstow United aims to leverage their seasoned lineup as they play their second game at Playford Park this year.

Despite Birrong Sports having won only one game this season, their recent 6-0 win over Georges River Thistle demonstrates their potential to compete for a spot in the finals.

With a notably young squad, the oldest player being just 23, discipline will be crucial as they face the experienced Padstow United.

Jacob Marszal, a standout performer for Birrong Sports, comes into this game after scoring five goals last weekend, bringing his season total to 12. His role will be crucial as Birrong aims to penetrate Padstow United’s solid defence.

With both teams in excellent form, this match is poised to be highly competitive, featuring plenty of goal-scoring action as each side strives to secure the three points.

Umbro BPL Round 5 Preview

The Umbro Bankstown Premier League Previews make a return for Round 5 of the 2024 Season in preparation for an action-packed weekend of football.

Our Match of the Round sees Padstow United and Central Sydney Wolves go head-to-head at Padstow Park on Friday Night with both teams looking to remain undefeated to start the season.

Elsewhere, Bankstown Sports Stars host a red-hot Panania Diggers side at Nick Kearns, while Bankstown Sports Strikers welcome a high-flying Yagoona Lions to Crest Sporting Complex.

Revesby Workers will look to upset and in from Padstow Hornets at Marco Reserve, while Georges River Thistle and Birrong Sports both search for their first win of the season.

Match of the Round: Padstow United vs Central Sydney Wolves, Friday 19th April 7:30pm @ Padstow Park

Previous Meeting: Padstow united 2-2 Central Sydney Wolves – Rd 15, 2023

Padstow United and Central Sydney Wolves play at Padstow Park for the first time this season as they both look to remain undefeated to start the 2024 season.

When these two sides met in Round 15 of the 2023 Season, it was an 89th minute goal from Padstow United’s John Martinez which led to the points being shared by the two sides.

4th placed Padstow United have looked a much more organised side compared to their 2023 campaign with their new coach/player signing, Sergio Tarazona playing a crucial role to their positive start in 2024 as he brings a wealth of experience having played most recently with Gladesville Ryde Magic in 2024.

Rafa Coutinho and John Martinez have already proved to be handful upfront to start the season having found the net 3 goals between themselves in their opening matches. Expect the pair to be on the hunt for more goals this weekend.

Padstow United have been strong in defence this season having only conceded 3 goals in their opening three games. Their defence will need to be rock solid again this weekend as they face a Central Sydney Wolves side who have scored 14 goals so far this season.

1st placed Central Sydney Wolves have been the form side of the competition so far this season having won all four of their games so far this season.

Central Syndey Wolves have a lot of new faces this season and they have proven to be a well drilled attacking machine having scored 14 goals in their opening four matches with the goals being scored by multiple different players.

Shoji Mori has looked to be the danger man for Central Sydney Wolves to start the season. Expect Shoji to be the danger man as Central Sydney Wolves aim to break down a strong Padstow United defence.

An entertaining match should be expected with both sides looking to keep up towards the top of the table.

Bankstown Sports Stars vs Panania Diggers, Saturday 20th April 4pm @ Nick Kearns Reserve

These two teams haven’t met in the last few seasons.

Bankstown Sports Stars are keen to bounce back from their recent defeat and return to their winning form as they welcome the undefeated Panania Diggers.

7th placed Bankstown Sports Stars have demonstrated promise since their return to top-tier football in Bankstown after several years. They will aim for a positive result this weekend to stay competitive with the top teams in the league.

Despite securing a win in one of their first three games this season, Bankstown Sports Stars will be focusing on tightening their defence after allowing 9 goals in their last two matches.

2nd placed Panania Diggers are on a strong run to start their season with 14 goals scored in their opening four matches and yet to taste defeat.

Benjamin Ross has kicked off his 2024 campaign impressively, scoring 4 goals already. He, along with teammates Nicholas Vertsonis and Joshua Adams, who are also formidable in attack, will be keen to keep the momentum going.

This upcoming match promises plenty of offensive opportunities, as both teams will be determined to secure the three points.

Bankstown Sports Strikers vs Yagoona Lions FC, Saturday 20th April 4pm @ Crest Sporting Complex

Previous Meeting: Yagoona Lions 2-3 Bankstown Sports Strikers – Preliminary Final, 2023

Yagoona Lions will be looking to make amends for their defeat to Bankstown Sports Strikers in the preliminary final in 2023 as they take on a Bankstown Sports Strikers side eager to get three points and start climbing up the ladder.

When these two sides met in the Premier League finals series in 2023, Bankstown Sports Strikers remained resilient in defence and hang on for a strong 3-2 victory despite finishing the match with only 9-men.

6th placed Bankstown Sports Strikers have experienced a varied start to the season, winning just one of their first four matches. As the reigning 2024 champions, they need to start accumulating valuable wins to keep pace with the top teams in the league.

Striker Youssef Nasreddine has been a standout, scoring three times in the last two games. The Strikers are optimistic about their scoring abilities heading into this weekend, but they are particularly focused on their defensive performance as they prepare to counter a potent Yagoona Lions attack.

3rd placed Yagoona Lions are one of only two teams that have yet to drop a point this season, boasting three wins from their first three matches.

Despite losing 2023 Gold Medal winner Jamie Bazevski to NPL side Bankstown City Lions, Yagoona’s attack has not slowed down, scoring 11 goals in three games.

Dejan Simonoski is the key forward for Yagoona Lions, having netted 5 goals in his first three matches and aiming to maintain his scoring streak.

This match promises plenty of excitement, as Bankstown Sports Strikers seek a crucial three points after a shaky start to the season, while Yagoona Lions aim to continue their undefeated run.

Revesby Workers FC vs Padstow Hornets FC, Saturday 20th April 4pm @ Marco Reserve

Previous Meeting: Revesby Workers 1-10 Padstow Hornets – Rd 14, 2023

Revesby Workers are aiming to secure their first win of the season as they face Padstow Hornets, who are coming off a significant victory last weekend.

In their last meeting during Round 14 of the previous season, the Hornets dominated with a 10-1 win, a match that Revesby Workers would prefer to forget.

9th placed Revesby Workers earned their first point of the season with a 2-2 draw against Birrong Sports on Thursday night.

They are determined to bolster their defence to avoid a repeat of last season’s heavy loss to Padstow Hornets FC.

Despite not securing a win in their first four games, Revesby Workers have demonstrated potential and are hopeful of claiming their first victory of the season this weekend.

5th placed Padstow Hornets are riding high from a resounding 5-1 win over Bankstown Sports Stars last weekend and are looking to keep the momentum going with another victory this weekend.

Sean O’Connell, fresh from scoring a season-high five goals in a single match against Bankstown Sports Stars, will be eager to continue his scoring spree.

With a seasoned squad, the Hornets are aiming for their third consecutive win. Their attack is expected to be in top form as they seek to secure another win this season.

With the Hornets in good form and Revesby Workers striving to hit their stride, this match could provide one of the season’s more unpredictable outcomes, with both teams battling hard to secure the three points.

Georges River Thistle FC vs Birrong Sports FC, Saturday 20th April 4pm @ Coleman Park

Previous Meeting: Birrong Sports 2-4 Georges River Thistle – Rd 19, 2022

Georges River Thistle and Birrong Sports are both eager to notch their first wins of the season in a match that could be crucial for both teams.

In their last encounter, Georges River Thistle emerged victorious, scoring three late goals to secure a 4-2 win.

Despite losing their first four matches of the season and sitting in 10th place, Georges River Thistle remains optimistic. A win this weekend could spark a positive momentum shift for the remainder of their season.

Although they have only managed to score three goals in their opening four matches, all goals have come from Mohamad Elzein. His continued influence up front will be key if Thistle hopes to secure a much-needed three points.

8th placed Birrong Sports earned their first point of the season with a 2-2 draw against Revesby Workers, even playing with nine men for the final 15 minutes of the match.

Jacob Marszal has been in top form for Birrong Sports, scoring seven out of their nine goals this season. He is expected to pose a significant threat once again this weekend.

With both teams hungry for a win, spectators can anticipate an exciting 90 minutes filled with goal-scoring opportunities at both ends of the pitch.

UWPL Grand Final Preview

After months of exciting football matches, two remarkable teams are set to collide in the Umbro Women’s Premier League Grand Final as they showcase the talent that Female Football has to offer in the Bankstown District.

Revesby Workers Maroon who are the form team of the competition having only lost one game this season, will take on the Premiers of the competition and the 2022 champions, Georges River Thistle.

Grand Final: Revesby Workers Maroon vs Georges River Thistle, 27th August 6pm @ Padstow Park

Previous Meeting: Georges River Thistle 1-1 Revesby Workers Maroon – Semi Final, 2023

Revesby Workers Maroon and Georges River Thistle meet for the 5th time this season as Revesby Workers Maroon look to make up for there fall out in last season’s finals series, while Georges River Thistle look to retain the title after their success in 2022.

The last time these two sides met, both sides were unable to be separated after 120 minutes of intense finals football, however, it was Revesby Workers Maroon who were the calmer of the two sides from the penalty as they defeated Georges River Thistle in the penalty shootout 3-1.

Revesby Workers Maroon have been the best attacking side in the competition as they have threats in attack across their whole front line and midfield. Two of the top scorers in the competition come from the Revesby Workers Maroon side with Marianna Konidaris and Mya Donnely constantly finding the back of the net throughout the 2023 season.

Although Revesby may struggle to see a lot of possession against Georges River Thistle, Revesby Maroon will look to win the ball and play forward quickly into their front line. Marianna Konidaris and Mya Donnelly will look to sit as attacking midfielders behind their front line and link up their play to try and break down a resilient Thistle defence who have not conceded many goals this season.

Olivia Lambkin will look to be a constant threat down their right side as she makes forward runs behind Thistles defence and looks to deliver pinpoint crosses into Georges River Thistle’s box to create chances for her attack.

Revesby Workers Maroon are in form and come into this match with a lot of positive momentum, however they will need to make sure they continue to play with energy and determination to not allow Thistle’s danger players find space in this game.

Georges River Thistle will be disappointed to have lost their last two meetings against Revesby Workers Maroon this season and will need to find some extra energy in their performances if they are to be crowned champions for consecutive seasons.

Thistle were 3-2 victors in their Major Final match last weekend which saw them progress to the Grand Finals this weekend, however, after some early dominance in the match they nearly let their lead slip through some lapse in concentration. They will look to be more focused for the full 90 minutes this weekend.

Thistle’s Monica Nolevski will be key for her team in this fixture as she plays in a central defensive midfielder role, shutting down Revesby Workers Maroon quick counter attacks before looking to use her strong left foot to play her speedy attackers in behind Revesby’s defence to create goals scoring opportunities.

Georges River Thistle’s defence has been key to their success this season as they conceded the least goals in the 2023 competition. Coutrney Mcgee’s pace in defence should prove vital this weekend as she looks to sweep any quick counter attacks by the Revesby Maroon side.

As the stage is set for un unforgettable Grand Final, join us at Padstow Park this Sunday as the two best Women’s Premier League sides go head-to-head with the winner being declared the 2023 Umbro Women’s Premier League champions.

BUPL Grand Final’s Preview

As the sun sets on an exhilarating season of highs, lows, and unforgettable moments, we find ourselves on the precipice of the ultimate showdown – the Bankstown Umbro Premier League Grand Final’s.

Central Sydney Wolves and Bankstown Sports Strikers Reserve Grade squads will be the first two teams to go head-to-head with the winner being named champions of the 2023 Reserve Grade competition and having their name engraved with past winner of the competition.

Then the final game this Saturday at Padstow Park will see Padstow Hornets, the only team to win the Premier League since 2017, take on Bankstown Sports Strikers who will be looking for revenge after their defeat at the hands of Padstow Hornets in the 2022 Grand Final.

The stage is set, the tension is palpable, and as the first whistle beckons, a symphony of passion and prowess will unfold, leaving an indelible mark on the beautiful game.

Reserve Grade Grand Final: Central Sydney Wolves vs Bankstown Sports Strikers, 26th August 4:30pm @ Padstow Park

Previous Meeting: Bankstown Sports Strikers 2-3 Central Sydney Wolves – Semi Final, 2023

Get ready for a football spectacle like no other as the Central Sydney Wolves lock horns with the Bankstown Sports Strikers in an upcoming clash that promises to be a riveting display of skill, strategy, and pure determination.

When these sides previously met two weeks ago in the semi-final, Central Sydney Wolves won the game 3-2 after extra-time which is seen by many as one of the upsets of the season as the dominant Bankstown Sports Strikers looked destined to go straight into the Grand Final.

Central Sydney Wolves will look to defy the odds once again in the Reserve Grade Grand Final as they play Bankstown Sports Strikers for the fourth time this season having only beaten them for the first time this season in their 3-2 Semi Final victory.

Central Sydney Wolves only finished 3rd on the competition ladder this season, however, due to two strong performances against the top two sides in the Reserve Grade Competition which saw them win both of their final’s matches, they confirmed their Grand Final position in 2023.

Central Sydney Wolves only have 13 players available for the Grand Final this weekend which may place their side at a disadvantage, however, being led by a strong coaching staff and their captain Mayas Hamdan, Central Sydney Wolves are expected to have their same fighting spirit they have had throughout the entire final’s series driving them towards another big victory.

Amidst a mixture of nerves and excitement, Central Sydney Wolves will look to showcase their months of dedication and hard work in the highly anticipated Reserve Grade Grand Final this weekend.

Bankstown Sports Strikers appear in the Reserve Grade Grand Final for the second season in a row as they look to make-up for a disappointing Grand Final loss in 2022 and lift the trophy in 2023.

Bankstown Sports Strikers have been a force to reckoned with in 2023 having finished premiers with the most goals scored and the least goals conceded in the Reserve Grade competition. However, having been defeated by a determined Central Sydney Wolves in their semi-final match two weeks ago, the Strikers will understand how unpredictable a final’s fixture can be and will need to be at their best to win this match.

With a strong record and a massive supporting crowd behind them, expect Bankstown Sports Strikers to play with the same courage and class that they have had throughout the entire season to get them over line in the Grand Final.

Get ready for a showdown of epic proportions as the best teams take center stage in the Grand Final, where a champion will emerge triumphant in a spectacle that will be remembered for years to come.

1st Grade Grand Final: Padstow Hornets vs Bankstown Sports Strikers, 26th August 6:30pm @ Padstow Park

Previous Meeting: Bankstown Sports Strikers 1-3 Padstow Hornets – Preliminary Final, 2023

It’s the moment we’ve been waiting for all season… After 18 intense rounds of the 1st grade competition and a captivating finals series, two heavy weights of the competition, Padstow Hornets and Bankstown Sports Strikers, will go head-to-head for the second consecutive 1st Grade Grand Final as both sides are determined to lift the trophy for different reasons.

Bankstown Sports Strikers will look to right the wrongs of the 2022 Grand Final where a single goal and some heroic saves by Padstow Hornets goalkeeper Mitchell Ashley saw Padstow Hornets win the final 1-0, while Padstow Hornets will be determined to win their 5th consecutive 1st Grade title and continue to their dominance in this competition.

These has not been much to split these two sides this season in their previous encounters, however, when these two sides met in the first round of finals this season, Padstow Hornets scored three unanswered goals in the second half of the match to defeat Bankstown Sports Strikers 3-1.

Padstow Hornets have not lost a game since Round 9 of the competition as they strived up the competition ladder to finish in 3rd place before winning their two fixtures in the finals series to book their spot in the Grand Final this season.

Padstow Hornets are a side that have been together for a long time and understand the qualities that are needed to win finals matches.

Mike Cklamovski, Neil Philippou, and Tom Kovacs have been some of the standouts for Padstow Hornets as they turned their performances around mid-way through the season and hit strong form coming into this match. Look for them to be strong in this match if their side are to win this match.

Look for a leader or two to step up for the Hornets, where a strong defence from the beginning will be a priority in what is no doubt their most important match of the season.

Bankstown Sports Strikers will be looking to finally end Padstow Hornets dominance in the Bankstown Premier League competition with an important win this weekend.

Ali Hassan’s Strikers side is known for being one of the most skilful and consistent teams in the competition, however, they will need to be at their best this weekend if they are to defeat a Padstow Hornets side who refuses to lose Grand Final matches.

Bankstown Sports Strikers showed their fighting spirit and courage in their 3-2 victory over the premiers Yagoona Lions last weekend as they played the second half with only 10-men before going down to 9-men late into the second half. If Bankstown Sports Strikers bring that same tenacity this weekend, we could see them finally lift the 1st grade trophy this weekend.

1st Grade finals don’t get more exciting than this. With a large crowd expected at Padstow Park to watch these two heavy weights of the competition go into battle, expect a fighting contest where one moment could decide it.
