Umbro BPL Round 12 Preview

Umbro BPL Round 12 Review

After a few weeks off due to wet weather, the Umbro Bankstown Premier League teams are pumped up and ready for action this weekend.

This weekend’s Match of the Round features Birrong Sports facing off against Revesby Workers. Both teams are tied on points and are eager to secure vital points in what promises to be a tough contest.

In other matches, Georges River Thistle hosts Panania Diggers, with the teams sitting at opposite ends of the competition ladder. Padstow United will aim to complete a league double over Bankstown Sports Stars, having already beaten them earlier in the season.

Yagoona Lions are looking to extend their undefeated streak to six matches as they host Padstow Hornets, who are searching for their first win in three games. Meanwhile, Central Sydney Wolves hope to keep the pressure on the league leaders by defeating Bankstown Sports Strikers this Saturday.

Match of the Round: Birrong Sports vs Revesby Workers, Saturday 15th June 4pm @ Jim Ring Reserve

Previous Meeting: Revesby Workers 2-2 Birrong Sports – Rd 3, 2024

Despite their league positions in 2024, both Birrong Sports and Revesby Workers will be fired up for what looks to be a winnable match for both teams.

In their Round 3 encounter, Revesby Workers managed to come back from a 2-1 deficit to draw 2-2 in a fiery contest that saw three players sent off. Expect a similarly intense match this weekend.

Eighth-placed Birrong Sports are in their toughest run of the season, having lost their last four games in a row.

They have scored only once in their past four fixtures and will be focusing on their attack this weekend against a Revesby Workers side that has conceded 33 goals this season.

Jacob Marszal has struggled to find the back of the net in recent weeks; however, he scored twice in their previous encounter and will be looking to recapture his early-season form this weekend.

Ninth-placed Revesby Workers have lost back-to-back games recently and will be hoping to return to the winners’ circle this weekend.

Aside from scoring five goals against Bankstown Sports Strikers in Round 7, Revesby Workers have managed only one goal since Round 5.

Revesby Workers face the worst defensive side this season and will be aiming to create more chances in front of goal this weekend.

With two sides known for high-scoring fixtures, expect a goal fest in this match that could go either way.

Georges River Thistle vs Panania Diggers, Saturday 15th June 4pm @ Coleman Park

Previous Meeting: Panania Diggers 2-0 Georges River Thistle – Rd 3, 2024

Georges River Thistle will be riding a wave of confidence after clinching their first win of the season, but they’ll face a tough challenge as they take on the league leaders this weekend.

In Round 3, Panania Diggers dominated at home with a 2-0 victory over Georges River Thistle. However, expect a much tougher battle for the league leaders at Coleman Park this time around.

Tenth-placed Georges River Thistle have hit a good patch of form in their last two rounds, narrowly losing 2-1 to Bankstown Sports Strikers and defeating Bankstown Sports Stars 2-1 in their most recent match.

Mathew Tahere has been the star for Thistle, scoring all three of their goals in these matches, and he’ll be looking to continue his goal-scoring streak to pull off a massive upset this weekend.

First-placed Panania Diggers are confident they can continue their undefeated season and maintain pressure on the teams below them as they aim for the premiership honors.

Panania were dominant on both ends of the field against Revesby Workers last round, winning 5-0. The crowd can expect more of the same as they face another team from the bottom of the ladder.

Despite their positions on the league ladder, this match-up promises excitement as Georges River Thistle look to pull off the upset of the season.

Padstow United vs Bankstown Sports Stars, Saturday 15th June 4pm @ Playford Park

Previous Meeting: Bankstown Sports Stars 0-7 Padstow United – Rd 3, 2024

Padstow United will aim to do the league double over Bankstown Sports Stars and return to winning ways as they face a Stars team coming off two consecutive losses.

In their previous encounter, Padstow United dominated with a 7-0 victory. Rafa Coutinho and John Martinez combined for six of those goals and will look to add to their tallies this weekend.

Fifth-placed Padstow United remain one of only two teams in the competition to be undefeated in 2024. However, they have drawn four out of their nine matches this season and will be determined to secure a decisive win this weekend to keep their challenge for the top of the table alive.

John Martinez and Rafa Coutinho are competing for top goal scorer Honor’s and will be hoping to replicate their performance from Round 3.

Seventh-placed Bankstown Sports Stars suffered a surprising setback in Round 10, losing to tenth-placed Georges River Thistle, who secured their first win of the season.

Recent signing Esoghume Dominic scored in his debut for the club during their Round 11 loss to Yagoona Lions, and the Stars will look to him to find the back of the net again this weekend against tough opposition.

As Padstow United seek to maintain pressure on the top four and Bankstown Sports Stars look for redemption after their Round 3 encounter, expect a much tighter affair that will be decided by defensive performance.

Yagoona Lions vs Padstow Hornets, Saturday 15th June 4pm @ O’Neill Park

Previous Meeting: Padstow Hornets 4-0 Yagoona Lions – Rd 3, 2024

This weekend promises a critical top-of-the-table clash as Yagoona Lions and Padstow Hornets go head-to-head at O’Neill Park.

In Round 3, Padstow Hornets stunned Yagoona Lions at home with a 4-0 victory, handing the Lions their first loss of the season.

Third-placed Yagoona Lions are on a five-match unbeaten streak, recently defeating Bankstown Sports Stars 4-2 at Padstow Park. However, Yagoona has played one more game than the rest of the top five, so a loss this weekend could see them slip behind once the catch-up games are played.

Captain Steve Kotevski has been instrumental during their unbeaten run, and his leadership will be vital once again.

They’ve been prolific in front of goal, scoring 16 times in their last five matches, averaging over three goals per game. If they maintain this scoring form, they hope to remain undefeated this weekend.

Meanwhile, Padstow Hornets, also third-placed, suffered their second loss of the season in Round 10 against Central Sydney Wolves, failing to beat them for the second time this season.

Mike Cklamovski was unavailable due to suspension in Round 10, and his return will be crucial for the Hornets as they seek to get back to winning ways.

Despite the loss, Manual Angelopoulos scored a seven-minute hat-trick, giving his side an early lead. Angelopoulos has now scored three hat-tricks in his last four games and will be keen to continue his scoring streak this weekend.

With Yagoona Lions looking to capitalise on any slip-ups from the teams above them and the Hornets eager to return to winning ways, expect a thrilling match full of chances and plenty of goals.

Central Sydney Wolves vs Bankstown Sports Strikers, Saturday 15th June 4pm @ Lockwood Park

Previous Meeting: Bankstown Sports Strikers 1-3 Central Sydney Wolves – Rd 3, 2024

With only 10 points from their first nine games, Bankstown Sports Strikers are on a mission to secure a crucial three points this weekend as they face the in-form Central Sydney Wolves, who have won two of their last three matches.

In their Round 3 encounter, Central Sydney Wolves started strong, netting three goals in the opening 30 minutes and holding off a late surge from Bankstown Sports Strikers to win 3-1.

Currently in sixth place, the Bankstown Sports Strikers are nine points behind the top half of the table. A loss this weekend could see them fall 11 points behind, making this match pivotal.

The Strikers are undefeated in their last two matches, thanks to strong defensive performances, and they will rely on their defense once again to bring home a vital three points.

Second-placed Central Sydney Wolves are riding high after a thrilling 4-3 comeback victory against Padstow Hornets in Round 10, where they overturned a 3-1 first-half deficit. This win propelled them above the Hornets in the standings.

Marvis Oyanoghafo was the standout performer for the Wolves, scoring all four of their goals. With his current form, he’s likely to find the back of the net again this weekend.

As Central Sydney Wolves aim to maintain their pressure at the top of the table and Bankstown Sports Strikers fight to keep their finals hopes alive, expect a fiercely contested match that could go either way.
