BDAFA Update – Lockdown Restrictions June 2021

Dear Clubs,

As you would be aware, as per advice on Saturday by the NSW Premier strict new restrictions to manage the spread of COVID-19 have now been put in place.

We want to assure our clubs, members and participants that we will manage this situation just like we did in 2020 with the clear goal of being able to complete our season in a safe and enjoyable way once restrictions are lift. In the meantime we please note the following:

Suspension of Football Activities
Football NSW have announce a suspension of all football activities within Greater Sydney including the Blue Mountains, Central Coast and Wollongong immediately until 11.59pm on Friday, 9 July 2021.

What does this mean for Football in those areas?

• Effective immediately, all games, training and other football activities must cease;

• All Football NSW and Association competitions and leagues will be suspended until 11.59pm on Friday, 9 July 2021;

• Any football activity which takes place during this period is not sanctioned by Football NSW and, therefore, the Personal Accident insurance cover that is provided as part of a player’s registration may not apply.

City of Canterbury-Bankstown Council

Following on from the restriction announcement, City of Canterbury-Bankstown Council all of Canterbury Bankstown Council’s sporting facilities and fields will be closed for all organised sporting activities.

Council is taking this situation very seriously and the health and safety of our community is our number one priority. Please be advised that failure to comply these new restrictions will be taken very seriously and may jeopardise your future bookings and/or be reported to the relevant Health and Government authorities.

We will continue to communicate with both Football NSW & Council on behalf our clubs and members as changes and restrictions evolve, we will also continue to keep all Clubs updated on any changes and as we subsequently working our way back in to a return to play state.

In the interim, BDAFA will be working through the different considerations for the season to be completed once restrictions are lifted. We will once available share this information with clubs, as you could imagine there may be further changes based on any changes to restrictions moving forward.

The BDAFA office will be CLOSED

We look forward to being back to football shortly and seeing you all around the grounds.

2021 BDAFA Men’s Premier League Update

BDAFA wishes to provide an update in respect of the 2021 BDAFA Men’s Premier League, following multiple conversations with North Bankstown SC we regret to inform that Norths have this morning officially withdrawn from the 2021 BDAFA Men’s Premier League Competition.

North Bankstown SC have been stalwart in the BDAFA Men’s Premier League having participated in every season since its inception, including having won the inaugural Premier League Competition in 1978. The club has exhausted all avenues in trying to maintain their position this season in the Premier League however due to many players leaving the team their position has become untenable in the competition this season.

As we are sure all Clubs would share the sentiment that we hope to see North Bankstown return to the competition in future. We are also pleased that North Bankstown have been able to retain enough players to have an All Age team following their withdrawal from the Competition. We will continue to support North Bankstown in building the club moving forward.

For clarity, please note the following important information of how this will impact the remainder of the season:

    • All fixtures involving North Bankstown SC will be removed this includes Points, Goals For, Against, Gold Medal points & Goalscorer tallies. This is in line with BDAFA Regulations – Chapter A – Registration Regulations A3.6.
    • The now vacant position in the Men’s Premier League will become a bye.
    • For the purposes of any applicable Promotion/Relegation the now vacated position i.e. The Bye will be deemed to be the last placed team in the competition. Please refer to previous correspondence Board Directive – 2021 Men’s Premier League Promotion and Relegation Regulations sent out on 17th March 2021.

BFR & BDAFA – Referee Subsidy Announcement

Referees are often the least thanked volunteers that makes our sport as great as it is. As we can all appreciate, one of the biggest challenges we have faced in recent years has been referee coverage in competitive fixtures. It is well documented that a lack of referee coverage leads to a poor level of retention for players. This combined with a higher than expected referee drop-out has meant that the number of games each weekend covered by a referee is not at a level we would all desire.

In order to improve and address this issue, BDAFA has worked collaboratively with the BFR on multiple initiatives to help improve the number of referees in Bankstown as well the number of games covered by referees.

The two main initiatives which are pleased to announce to our clubs are as follows:

1) Altered Scheduling –
BDAFA will look to amend the historical 1pm & 3pm afternoon slots to now accommodate and third fixture in the afternoon. Based on need, venue and feedback from clubs and their members this will allow for afternoon timeslots of 12pm, 2pm & 4pm or 1pm, 3pm & 5pm as required. This will not only allow for greater referee coverage of fixtures, but also allow for more games to be held at the home venue and reduce the need for neutral venues.

2) Referee Registration Subsidy –

BDAFA & BFR have discussed the need to remove all barriers relating to cost for someone to referee in Bankstown. In doing so, BDAFA will look to subsidise referee’s registration expenses and associated costs to allow and encourage a greater amount of referee participation. Below are some of the key highlights of the subsidy:

  • Free referee courses will now be offered to encourage as many people as possible to complete the course.
  • Referee registration will be capped at $100.00 for the 2021 Winter Season, with referees also receive this registration amount back in full once they reach 30 fixtures in the 2021 Winter Season.
  • New referees will no longer need to purchase uniform and equipment to start the season, with all referees receiving a new referees kit, with new referees also receiving a set of flags, whistle and cards.

BDAFA and BFR hope that these initiatives will create growth within the Bankstown football community and enable a substantial increase in the number of games covered by referees in our competition moving forward.

BDAFA and BFR will work together in the coming days, to share marketing material that we hope our football community can help spread the word and encourage recruitment of new referees.

2021 BDAFA Premier League Competition

With Premier League Nominations closed on 1st February 2021 at 5pm, the Board met to determine the 2021 BDAFA Premier League Competition Structure.

A total of 15 submissions were submitted for the 2021 Premier League Competition of which 13 were unique clubs. On that basis this meant that the Premier League 2 Competition would not have sufficient teams to fulfill the competition requirements as outlined below:

A9.1 PL Competitions – The BDAFA competition will include two squad based all age competitions namely, Premier League 1st Division – PL1, Premier League 2nd Division – PL2 (assuming 6 or more Clubs nominate for PL2).
A11.6 BDAFA may alter the number of teams in PL1 and PL2 in order that a viable competition be conducted.

The board then considered what would be in the best interest of Football in Bankstown and subsequently resolved to establish a 12-team competition for Premier League in 2021. The teams were considered based on their 2020 Premier League Club Championship rankings. This meant that 12 of the 13 unique club submissions would be able to participate in the BDAFA Premier League in 2021.

The composition of the competition for 2021 is as per below:

Premier League
Bankstown Sports Strikers FC
Bass Hill Rangers FC
Birrong Sports FC
Central Sydney Wolves FC
Georges River Thistle FC
Greenacre Eagles FC
North Bankstown SC
Padstow Hornets FC
Padstow United SC
Panania Diggers
Revesby Workers FC
Yagoona Lions FC

For clarity please note the following in respect to the competition:

With regards to Promotion/Relegation the Board will meet to determine the criteria and regulations surrounding Promotion/Relegation in 2021. These regulations will be released prior to the commencement of the Premier League Competition.

Final Series will be amended to a 5-team, 4-week Finals of which will be based on the below:

Round 1 – Preliminary Final (PF)

  • 1 – Through to SF1
  • 2v3 – (PF1)
  • 4v5 – (PF2)

Round 2 – Semi- Final (SF)

  • Minor Prems v Winner of PF1 – (SF1)
  • Winner of PF2 verses loser of PF1 – (SF2)

Round 3 – Major Final (MF)

  • Loser of SF1 vs Winner of SF2 (MF)

Round 4 – Grand Final (GF)

  • Winner of SF1 v Winner of MF

Round 1 of the Competition will kick-off on Saturday 20th March, and the Draw is now available on for the 2021 Premier League Season, please note that fixtures are subject to change as we build the rest of the 2021 Winter Season Draw.

On behalf of BDAFA, good luck to all participating clubs.

U21’s Competition 2021

Following feedback from our clubs and participants BDAFA are excited announce we will be offering an U21’s competition for the 2021 season.

This will provide an opportunity for players leaving the Under 18s competition to participate amongst players in similar age groups.
This will to bridge the gap between Under 18s and Men’s All Age competitions.
