After a week off, the Women’s Umbro Premier League returns this weekend to give us another round of exciting football.
The match of the Round this week sees a Revesby Workers derby as Revesby Maroon and Revesby White go head-to-head at Padstow Park.
Elsewhere, Georges River Thistle play at their home ground Coleman Park for the second time this season as Birrong Sports visit.
East Bankstown have the bye this round.
Match of the Round: Revesby Workers Maroon vs Revesby Workers White, 2nd July 3pm @ Padstow Park
Previous Meeting: Revesby Workers White 1-4 Revesby Workers Maroon – Rd 5, 2023
Revesby Maroon got back to winning ways in Round Nine and they search for back-to-back victories as they take on Revesby White who search for their first victory since Round Three.
Revesby Maroon got their better of their club rivals in their Round Five encounter, where an Olivia Lambkin double helped them to a 4-1 victory.
2nd placed Revesby Workers Maroon will be eager for a second straight victory this weekend to keep themselves within arm’s length of the league leaders.
Revesby Maroon will not have been happy conceding six goals in their past three games which has seen them only come away with one win, if Revesby Maroon are to become more consistent, defence will be key.
However, Revesby Maroon are the best attacking team in the league with four players who have scored 4 or more goals this season; expect them to create a lot of chances in their attacking third.
4th placed Revesby White have fallen from 1st in Round Three, when they recorded their last win this season as they will hope they can rescue some momentum this weekend before their season begins to slip away.
Their struggles have included four losses and one draw in their last five matches, and they have only been able to score three goals in their last five matches.
However, Revesby White is full of quality players and if they can start to score more goals in attack, we could see them start to go on a winning run towards the finals.
These two sides are separated by nine points on the competition ladder, however, with this fixture being a club derby, expect that anything could happen in this match.
Georges River Thistle vs Birrong Sports, 2nd July 3pm @ Coleman Park
Previous Meeting: Birrong Sports 0-3 Georges River Thistle – Rd 5, 2023
Georges River Thistle return to Coleman Park for the second time this season as they play Birrong Sports who have had two weeks off and should be feeling fresh as they look to climb off the bottom of the ladder.
Georges River Thistle got the better of Birrong Sports when the two sides met in Round Five, where Thistle’s Brooke Williams and Jorja Murray combined for three first half goals as they went on to win the game 3-0.
League leaders Georges River Thistle are flying at the moment and remain undefeated since Round One this season.
They have shown their fire power in attack as well as their resilience in defence all season which has proven why they sit at the top of the table.
However, Thistle have been unable to keep a clean sheet in their last three matches which has seen the concede four goals, they will be looking to get back to their defensive best this weekend as they take on Birrong Sports who have struggled to find the back of the net.
5th placed Birrong Sports had a rocky start to the season, however they are undefeated in their last three matches which has seen them draw three games in a row; they will be looking to turn draws into wins this weekend.
They showed fantastic resilience in Round Eight which saw them draw 2nd placed Revesby Maroon playing with 10 women for the full 90-minutes due to players being unavailable.
Birrong Sports have shown they are a fighting team with a great team morale, and they will hope that spirt can help them climb off the bottom of the ladder heading into the business end of the competition.
Although this is a clash between top of the table and bottom of the ladder; expect Birrong Sports to come out firing and potentially pull off an upset in this match.
