With just two fixtures scheduled for this Sunday, all eyes will be on Central Sydney Wolves and East Bankstown as they headline our Round 10 Match of the Week preview.
Match of the Round: Central Sydney Wolves vs East Bankstown, Sunday 22nd June 3:00pm @ Crest Sporting Complex
Previous Meeting: East Bankstown 2-1 Central Sydney Wolves – Round 5, 2025
Central Sydney Wolves will aim to continue their steady climb up the ladder as they set their sights on a third win from their last four outings when they face off against East Bankstown this Sunday. The match promises plenty of intrigue, with the Wolves building momentum and East Bankstown poised to return to the top of the standings should they secure a victory.
In their previous encounter during Round 5, East Bankstown came from behind to snatch a 2-1 win at Gosling Park. Chiara Nohra’s second-half strike proved decisive in that match. However, with this weekend’s fixture taking place on neutral ground and the Wolves rediscovering their goal-scoring form, a different outcome could very well be on the cards.
Central Sydney Wolves, currently sitting in 4th place, were denied a third consecutive win last weekend in their clash with league leaders Revesby Workers. Although Soman Saleem extended her impressive goal-scoring streak to four matches, it wasn’t enough to prevent a 4-1 defeat. Despite the loss, Wolves’ attacking form remains impressive — they’ve netted 14 goals in their last four matches.
Key to their offensive surge are young talents Soman Saleem and Dina Kamoun, who have combined for 14 of the team’s 17 goals this season. Both players sit near the top of the Golden Boot race and are expected to be closely monitored by the East Bankstown defence this weekend, given their recent scoring exploits.
Adding an extra challenge for the Wolves is a midweek catch-up game against Panania, which will test their endurance with a short turnaround before Sunday’s match. However, a win in that fixture would bring them within a single point of 3rd-placed Bankstown Sports Stars. With a victory over East Bankstown on Sunday, they could leap into the top three — a potential reward that will surely fuel their motivation.
On the other side, second-placed East Bankstown recently got back to winning ways with a convincing 3-0 result over St Christopher’s in their Round 3 catch-up game. Aimee Challita added her 7th goal of the campaign, while Natalie Stamkov and Louise Millar also found the net for the first time this season in a solid team performance.
East Bankstown suffered a significant setback in their Round 7 catch-up match against Revesby Workers when they were outdone 7-0 — a humbling first loss of the season that also marked the first time they failed to score this season. That defeat will no doubt be fresh in their minds, and they’ll be determined to bounce back strongly this Sunday to reclaim the top spot on the ladder.
With just six matches left before finals, East Bankstown will be striving to hit their peak form as they gear up for what they believe is their best opportunity yet to make a genuine push for the grand final — especially after their strong performances through the opening nine rounds. Seasoned forwards Pia Livas and Tara Edmiston, both known for their scoring prowess in past campaigns, have combined for four goals so far and will be determined to increase their tally during this crucial phase of the season.
With both teams hungry for points and eyeing their respective goals — Wolves aiming to break into the top three and East Bankstown looking to reclaim the summit — Sunday’s clash promises to be a pivotal and highly competitive affair.
