Umbro AAL1 Match of the Round 7 Preview

Round 7 Match of the Round

It’s been a very wet week, and with most grass fields expected to remain closed, only one game is likely to go ahead. Fortunately, Padstow Park is available and set to host this weekend’s action.

This week’s Match of the Round sees St Christopher’s take on Central Sydney Wolves, who feature for the third consecutive week, as they play at Padstow Park on Sunday.

Match of the Round: St Christopher’s vs Central Sydney Wolves, Sunday 25th May 3:30pm @ Padstow Park

Previous Meeting: Central Sydney Wolves 1-0 St Chistopher’s – Rd 2, 2025

St Christopher’s will be eyeing their second win of the season this weekend as they host a Central Sydney Wolves side that will be without several key players. The home side will see this as a prime opportunity to continue their recent improvement and push further up the ladder.

Their previous encounter came in Round 2, where Central Sydney Wolves edged out a narrow 1-0 victory thanks to a 39th-minute goal from Amanda Ridley. Wolves held on to that slender lead for the remainder of the match to claim the win.

At the time of their last mention in a Match of the Round preview following Round 3, St Christopher’s had yet to register a point or even score a goal. Since then, however, the side has turned a corner—winning their first game of the season and finding the net five times heading into this weekend’s clash. Their latest outing was against table-toppers Revesby Workers, where they showed signs of growth despite a 4-1 defeat. St Christopher’s struck first through their captain Mel Craft but couldn’t maintain their early lead. Nevertheless, the performance marked a significant improvement from their 7-0 loss to Revesby in Round 1.

After failing to score in their opening two fixtures, St Christopher’s have since found their attacking rhythm, scoring in each of their last three matches. Over those three games, they’ve netted five times, with goals coming from Mel Craft, Rachel White, and Taylah Paremeter. Steffi Coric also opened her account for the season with a brace in their Round 4 win over Panania Diggers. With offensive momentum building, attention will now turn to tightening up their defence, having conceded 11 goals in their last three matches.

This weekend’s match holds real significance for St Christopher’s. A victory would see them leapfrog Central Sydney Wolves on the ladder and move into the top four for the first time this season. Given the strides they’ve made since their last meeting with the Wolves, they’ll be confident of causing an upset against last year’s grand finalists.

Central Sydney Wolves, meanwhile, will be eager to bounce back from a disappointing draw last weekend against Bankstown Sports Stars. Despite taking a commanding 3-1 lead into the final 20 minutes—thanks to a third goal of the season from Dina Kamoun and a brace from 17-year-old sensation Soman Saleem—they were unable to close out the match and were forced to settle for a 3-3 draw.

To make matters more challenging for the Wolves this week, they’ll be without two key starters. Both Dina Kamoun and Shogofa Rahimi received suspensions in the Round 6 clash and will miss this weekend’s fixture. Their absence places added pressure on other key players, notably Amanda Ridley and Soman Saleem, who will need to rise to the occasion and lead by example.

A win for Central Sydney Wolves would be equally important, as it would create a four-point gap between them and St Christopher’s—an important buffer in the race for the top four, with finals football on the line. Given the stakes, expect the Wolves to come out firing as they look to secure their second win of the season—and a second consecutive victory over St Christopher’s.

With both teams eyeing a crucial three points, this matchup promises to be a defining moment in their seasons.
