Umbro AAL1 Match of the Round 3 Preview

Round 3 Match of the Round

Following two rounds of the competition, two teams remain undefeated in the competition, while we also have two teams searching for their first points of the season.

Our Match of the Round this Sunday sees Revesby Workers featured again as they face the top of the table Bankstown Sports Stars who are flying as they play at Padstow Park.

Match of the Round: Revesby Workers vs Bankstown Sports Stars, Sunday 27th April 3pm @ Padstow Park

These two teams have not met in previous seasons.

Revesby Workers saw their impressive 19-game unbeaten run in the AAL1 competition come to an end at the hands of East Bankstown, and they’ll be determined to bounce back to winning ways this weekend. Meanwhile, Bankstown Sports Stars, newcomers to the division, are riding high and will be aiming to claim their third straight victory as they look to solidify their position at the top of the table.

Currently in 3rd place, Revesby Workers suffered their first defeat in 20 AAL1 matches in Round 2 when they met a red-hot East Bankstown side in a top-of-the-table clash. East Bankstown opened the scoring early, but Revesby responded in the 30th minute through their captain, Gabriela Eisenhuth. Despite the fightback, they struggled to contain East Bankstown’s attacking pressure, conceding again late in the first half and early in the second to fall to a 3-1 loss.

Now faced with an unfamiliar challenge—recovering from a loss—Revesby Workers will look to use their wealth of AAL1 experience to refocus and bounce back quickly. With the top teams already pulling away, a defeat this weekend could see Revesby fall six points behind the leaders. They’ll be fully focused on securing three crucial points to stay in contention.

Despite the setback, Revesby Workers still hold the joint-best attacking record so far this season, having scored eight goals across their first two games. However, they’ll be up against a Bankstown Sports Stars side that has yet to concede a single goal. With that in mind, all eyes will be on Revesby’s attacking duo—Eisenhuth and Abbey Warren—who will need to be clinical if they’re to breach the Stars’ solid backline.

Bankstown Sports Stars have taken the AAL1 competition by storm in their debut season, sitting proudly at the top of the table after two commanding wins. Their latest triumph came in a strong 5-0 performance over Panania Diggers. Diana Elshiekh, Monical Nolevski, and Chelsea Lalsing all found the net in the first half to put the game beyond doubt by halftime, before Farah Moutasallem added a second-half brace to seal the emphatic victory. The win gives them confidence heading into what will be their biggest test so far.

Defensively, Bankstown Sports Stars have been exceptional, not conceding in their opening two games. Their young backline has shown great promise, and their experienced defenders—some of whom have previously faced Revesby Workers—will be essential this weekend in containing one of the competition’s most dangerous attacking units. Revesby scored a staggering 83 goals in 16 games last season, so the defensive test will be a serious one.

Offensively, the Stars have matched Revesby’s goal tally this season with eight goals of their own. Diana Elshiekh and Chelsea Lalsing have already proven to be a dynamic partnership, combining for five of those goals across two matches, and they’ll look to continue causing problems against a typically solid Revesby defence.

With both teams having never faced each other before, there’s an added layer of intrigue heading into this fixture. The key question remains: can Revesby Workers bounce back from defeat and show their champion pedigree, or will Bankstown Sports Stars continue their dream start and make a strong statement as title contenders in their first season?
