BUPL Match of the Round 5 Result

Bankstown Umbro Premier League Round 5 was an exciting weekend of football which saw us with a new competition leader after the round 5 results.

The round 5 match of the round saw Bankstown Sports Strikers and Padstow United end all square in a thrilling game.

Panania Diggers took all three points against Yagoona Lions in a top of the table clash, while Georges River Thistle made it three wins in a row as they beat Revesby Workers.

Elsewhere, Central Sydney Wolves and Padstow Hornets split the points.

 

Match of the Round: Bankstown Sports Strikers 1-1 Padstow United                  Reserve Grade Score: Bankstown Sports Strikers 4-1 Padstow United

The fixture between Bankstown Sports Strikers and Padstow United ended in a 1-1 draw in a tight contest where the game could have gone either way.

Bankstown Sports Strikers looked eager for a win as they took a shock defeat to Central Sydney Wolves in round 4.

It was Bankstown Sports Strikers that struck first as they found a goal in the 13th minute of the match courtesy of a goal by Rocci Giovanni Gabey.

However, it was going to be difficult for Bankstown Sports Strikers to keep out one of the best attacking sides in the league in Padstow United as they have scored the most goals in the competition so far.

Padstow United found their chance to equalise in the 19th minute of the match which was taken by none other than Rafa Coutinho who continues his run of goal scoring form and brought the match all square.

The game would head into halftime at 1-1.

In the second half we saw Bankstown Sports Strikers have a lot of possession in Padstow’s half as they sat back and looked to score on the counter.

Both sides saw their chances go a begging as they were unable to find a winner.

The game would end 1-1 which seemed to be a fair result.

 

Panania Diggers 2-1 Yagoona Lions                                                                                    Reserve Grade Score: Panania Diggers 1-0 Yagoona Lions

Panania Diggers defeated Yagoona Lions 2-1 in a top of the table clash which sees Panania Diggers climb past Yagoona Lions to the top of the ladder heading into the Easter break.

However, it was Yagoona who would find the first goal of the match in the 26th minute of the match as Enoch Prince Benneh found the back of the net to give his side a 1-0 advantage.

Yagoona Lions looked to try and hold out Panania’s attack till half time, however Panania’s striker Nicholas Vertsonis would find the leveller in the 40th minute with both sides going into half time locked up at 1-1.

Panania Diggers would find the lead for the first time in the game as their striker Nicholas Vertsonis hit the back of the net in the 66th minute to give him a brace in the match.

Yagoona would continue to look for an equaliser in the final 25 minutes of the match but they were unable to find a much needed the goal as Panania won the game 2-1.

The result sees Panania jump Yagoona on the table and puts Yagoona one point behind Panania who are now the league leaders.

 

Revesby Workers 1-5 Georges River Thistle                                                                 Reserve Grade Score: Revesby Workers 1-2 Georges River Thistle

Georges River Thistle made it three wins in a row as defeated Revesby Workers 5-1 in a dominant display.

Georges River Thistle opened the scoring early as in the 2nd minute of the game as Prakasit Prawaloetrak found the back of the net to give his side the advantage.

It wouldn’t be long before Thistle found their second and third goal with Rocco Domine scoring in the 9th minute before Thistle’s captain Adam Tahere scored in the 18th minute to make it 3-0.

Thistle continued to apply pressure throughout the half but were unable to extend their lead as they went into half time 3-0 up.

The second half saw the same dominant display by Georges River Thistle; however, it would be Revesby Workers who scored first in the second half through a goal by their striker Ashtun Letele in the 56th minute of the match which looked to give Revesby confidence that they could still make a comeback.

However, Thistle would find two goals late through their number 9 Mathew Tahere in the 75th and 81st minute to seal a 5-1 victory to Thistle after a dominant display as Revesby Workers continue to try and find their first points of the season.

Central Sydney Wolves 1-1 Padstow Hornets                                                                            Reserve Grade Score: Central Sydney Wolves 2-0 Padstow Hornets

Central Sydney Wolves split the points with Padstow Hornets in a 1-1 draw where Central Sydney Wolves dominated and Padstow Hornets went down to 10 men for the final 30 minutes of the match.

It was Padstow Hornets who were the ones to open the scoring as in the 17th minute of the match it was Padstow’s attacker Mike Cklamovski who found the back of the net to give his side a 1 goal advantage.

Central Sydney Wolves started to create numerous chances throughout the half as they looked for an equaliser, however they were unable to convert as the Hornets went into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.

Central Sydney Wolves came out in the second half with the same attacking pressure they had throughout the first half and it didn’t take long before they found their long awaited equaliser.

In the 51st minute of the match, ex-Bankstown United winger Kallie Bangura found the back of the net to bring the game back to 1-1.

It wouldn’t get any easier for Hornets as in the 60th minute of the match their winger Jamal Elbasha was shown his second yellow card of the match meaning he was sent off and they were down to men.

However, after a lot of attacking pressure by Central Sydney Wolves, the Hornets defence were able to hold them out meaning the game would end in a 1-1 draw.
